John Deere 3520
Hi,
I have owned my JD 3520 for about 5 years and all has been well until yesterday. Low on fuel and grabbed my RED can of Diesel. As I was filling the tank I realized that I needed to get some diesel because I was out but what the heck was I putting in? GAS. I found this site and a posting from Chris Bell. Since i never started the tractor after figuring out what I was doing, hopefully just disconnecting the line from the sed trap and cleaning out the trap will fix it. Fingers crossed and if I hadn't read Chris's post, I'd still be the target of my wife's eyes rolled up to the ceiling.

Thanks and maybe I can post something in the future that will help someone.

Welcome to TBN. Glad you caught the error in time. Sounds like you should be OK.

My diesel cans are red (had them a long time) but I have them clearly marked. I created stencils from a font I found and sprayed the letters onto the cans with yellow paint. Perhaps you could do something similar with your gas cans to grab your attention.

1*Don't put Diesel in a red can .
Get a Yellow can for diesel.

If you didn't start if you should be fine. Just drain the tank and fill with new diesel. If you want to be extra safe then replace the fuel filter, but I don't think any gas would have made it down that far.

I use a gas can for diesel too. If in doubt smell it. there is no confusing the two smells.

Yes, this was one of my fears when I got the 2520. Everything else in my world runs on gasoline. I went straight out and bought a yellow can with a decal stating "Diesel Fuel". It wasn't just me I was worried about, but anyone else who might have occasion to use my equipment in my absence, or fill my cans with fuel. I wanted there to be no confusion.

I got one last night. I drained the tank and sed bowl and refilled. Started right up but now it says low fuel???? Got a mechanic coming to service it so hopefully it's just air somewhere and can be drained. I But I now have a bright yellow can for diesel.
Thanks for the reply.
