New Yanmars!

/ New Yanmars! #61
I wonder if the new tractors would be red and black and be basically the tractors selling under the cub cadet name now. If you look at Austrailia, the sub compact is the ea2400, the same tractor as the cub sc2400, only black, red and white wheels. Looks pretty cool. Id rather have black than yellow.

This makes me very excited. I first learned how to drive a tractor on my fathers ym186 that he bought brand new way back when. good friend of ours still uses it every week to mow. great little tractor. If they can reproduce that quality and performance they will blow many others out of the water. especially if they come in at a deflated price to get into the market here in the states.

I'm old enough to remember when the YM186 first came out...in fact, a friend of mine was one of the original US Yanmar dealers. When Yanmar first came here there were half a dozen or more small 4wd diesel tractor companies all from Japan and all of them trying to get a foothold in the US market. At that time, Yanmar didn't even try to compete of price. They had what was clearly the highest quality and technology along great factory backing....but they also didn't mind charging the highest price for it. Their flagship at the time was the YM336D and fully outfitted it cost serious dollars.

What used to drive my Yanmar dealer friend crazy was the Yanmar sales philosophy. Yanmar was set on competing on service and technology and requiring things like dealer training, investment, and explaining just why expensive hitech tractors were better. All the while the competition - mainly Kubota - was requiring none of those things and concentrated on making their own pretty good machines available to rental companies at very low cost.

Come to think of it, there have been some new Yanmars available in the US for a while now. Four years back when I went looking for a new TLB there was a big Yanmar equipment dealer with brand new Yanmars on the lot. He was right across from the JD industrial dealer. The JDs are kind of a yellow/orange where the Yanmar is a lighter shade of yellow.I even drove a couple of their new Yanmar loaders. I think it had a frame-mounted backhoe, too. Anyway, it was medium HP, yellow with maybe some black trim...and I remember thinking they were very nicely priced but that that they were pretty basic compared to the competition. All in all they didn't remind me of the older red and cream Yanmar tractors. When I asked the dealer he didn't know about any of the 3pt farm tractors. All he had were the new industrial Yanmars.

Since this post came up I started looking again at the sub compact tractor market in general and the sc2400 in particular thinking I might pick up a new "yanmar" sub compact. I presently own the older 186d and 135d tractors which are unquestionably toop tier in quality. When I looked at the sc2400 I was a little disappointedd in the first impression quality. Seemed like plastic with decals put on for instructions. I hate the "rocker" foot peddle and think it is outdated. Did not get to drive one and know that it will be impressive. Maybe Im too critical but I am comparing it to my 30 year old tractor that to me is the definition of quality. I just looked at a mihindra 1816 that is a mitsubishi and it is all metal and seems pretty solid. Just my opinion. Im a huge Yanmar fan, thats why i am here.

Speaking of new yanmars and mahindras, i have a mahindra dealer down the road and he regularly shuffles the lot around. about 2 weeks ago driving past i nearly crashed as i thought i saw a yanmar in the front row. i did a u turn to go have a look but it was a new mahindra( dont remember model) but it looks like a yanmar (maybe 23xx sized with FEL) with MF wheels on it. next time i pass i ill take a picture of it.

Mahindra sub compact tractors are made by Mitsubishi. They have a 18 and 22 hp sub compact. All metal, position controll, live pto. Looks very well made. They will have a new line in Jan call the Max line, whith more hp to compete directly with kubota bx and other brands. Again, the equipment looks well made.

I talked to a Cub Cadet regional rep and he mirrored that info. One less decal! Also steered me to a Yanmar dealer.

This is great Yanmar news. Early buyers will likely get a good price as the brand gets established. Count me in.
The only issue is my preference for the red and cream colors.
The Cadet color scheme is still too painful considering the MTD link.

My bet is there is some agreement deep in the bowls of Yanmar and Cub Cadet that they can go to red/white color scheme after XX amount of years to help dealers with transition.

Lets hope its the original red and cream and satin green the red/white may remind some old timers of VN recons just sayin. :)

The yellow black does look real good but MTD leaves something to desire. my .02

From the looks of it these tractors were intended to be CCY tractors but instead Yanmar hurriedly threw on some yanmar decals instead. My guess is they will sell out the Yellow & black tractors and transition over to Red/white. :D:cool:

Very interesting thread here. My question would be the expected msrp compared to the other players.

One poster said they were cheaper then JD back in the 70s and 80s, and one said they were more expensive.

It would be great to catch an early deal.

You guyz are cracking me up with your color issues...
Cub definitely had some issues with some of their pre-2007 machines.....but when they started with Yanmar in 08 the machines have been spot on....and they changed colors. Obviously Yanmar brought something to the table with them. I recently looked over a LX450 and LX490, and they are definitely nice machines.
And...I also think there will be some deals to be had.....I'm working on one right now! :D
Looking forward to getting one of the last CCY's.......only a 4 year production, they'll be collector's items someday! ;)

Biggest problem I have....do I post on Yanmar forum now.....or CCY....or both? :laughing::laughing:
