New twist on Home Depot and Lowe's

Let's not get into how much money folkes are paid. Haven't all of you heard that the university of ALAbama just hired a new football coach at 3.5 mil per yr + for 8 yrs. THE HIGHEST PAID (AT THIS TIME) COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH !! with no guarantee that he will win 1 football game. Guess what , if he looses too many FOOTBALL games & they fire him , you got it ,they have to buy out of his contract. What a deal these coaches get ! I wish I were a college football coach you can have the CEO job.

That's what I'm trying to point out, Mike, is the stupidity of these contracts.
There are a limited number of people to choose from when a board is out looking for a C level executive. So limited, the candidate can almost write their own ticket which is what this guy apparently did. No different than sports stars jumping teams for big bucks. If you want to get the person who appears to be the best, you have to pay top dollar.

Their choice happened when they agreed to the contract in the first place..and it was obviously a flawed decision, no?
Hind sight is always 20/20. They wrote the contract they had to to get this guy. Things didn't turn out well, to say the least.

Yes, and the shareholders should show the Board of Directors the door, because they did not perform.

Shareholders are getting tired of the "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" game going on between BoDs and CEOs. It's the shareholders that always lose.

1,346 people or entities own 61.5% of HD stock. This means funds, brokers, money managers and wealthy individuals.

Or so they would like us to believe.

In reality, I'll bet there were at least 20 people already working at Home Depot that would have made better CEO's but were never even considered because the latest fad management seems to dictate that knowing the business is somehow a detriment.

The sage continues. Today, Home Depot calls and asks me to return the carpet samples that I returned the 20th of December. Explained that I had returned them and the date and added that I was not to happy with the salesman and she knew right of way which one it was and said he was no longer in that department.

It was my understanding that they moved him, not to management, I hope.

In other words, there are just as many potential candidates for C level positions as there are for cashiers? Store managers? Area managers? Hardly.

You have no idea if this is true. I could just as easily speculate there were 20 who were interviewed and didn't fit the bill. Why is it people have such a hard time believing the board made a hiring mistake?
