New to us Ford 3000 questions?

We picked up a Ford 3000 Tuesday and really like it so far. It's gas with a transmission PTO.

Since we never owned a thousand series ford we've already come up with a few questions.

The I&T book can't get here soon enough.

The first thing that jumped out at us is the original instrument panel has been replaced with some gauges.

There is no ProofMeter(?), hour meter, or temp.

Here are a few questions so far.

1. What was connected to the back of the generator?

2. What was connected to the three plugs(?) on the back left side of the engine?

3. There is an electric fuel pump mounted. Was that original? The Holly carb leaks. Is that because there's no pressure relief valve on the pump?

Just shooting in the dark here.

i see twin sticks.. so it must be a 6spd or 8spd tranny. most 3000's were 8spd.. 6spd usually fell to the 2000's

Have you decoded the model id to verify it is a trans pto. sheet metal looks post 68

model id for a 8spd 3000 with gas and live pto would be:

C1023C

ic it was non live for some reason..

C1022C

this number is on the trans bellhousing aft of the starter.

originally had a fuel pump on the front of the engine. leak at the holley carb? Take the tractor sn and date and holley info in and get the correct kit.. and I think i'd fix the oem fuel pump.

don't worry about the last pic.. them plugs are suposed to be there.

conenctor on the back of the genny was the tach drive cable nipple.

The C1023Csound right. My brother has all that stuff. If he doesn't post it up I'm going out today to the ranch an get it.

It's 8 speed. Also have to get the rpm's down to push the pto lever in gear. Still grinds. Only way to not grind is stop stop the engine.

Is the original a mechanical fuel pump?

The Holly leaks. I figured over time the fuel pump had forced fuel into the carb after each shut down to the point of causing a leak. I don't know if that's even possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. This tractor will really help this summer with all the rain we had. We put the new shredder yesterday on it and it really hums.

it should have a dual stage cluch and live pto.. if you stomp the clutch and the pto grinds, then the pto stage ain't releasing

check pedal freeplay adjustment first. that's about all you can do.

at some point he clutch wears enough that you just have to repalce it.

We put a good 4 hours on the tractor today shredding. Ran fine except the rear axle seals are leaking and it makes for scary stops.

I couldn't feel a second break in the clutch for the PTO. We need to try adjusting the clutch. I'd rather not split the tractor.

the 1023c is part of the model id.. 8spd 3000 with gas and live pto

the other numbers should be a serial number and then a date code. date code will be a number for year, letter for month, then a number 1-2 digits, then an A-B-C for shift. , digits in middle are day of month... serial number will start with a C for us models.. and a B for basildon england models, and A for antwerp belgium models..

I'll have to remove paint and try something else to get those numbers and letters back.

They look like they were sanded down on a repaint and are now very faint at best.

I forgot. We ran it dry and put 10 gallons in it. We couldn't get it started for a while then I realized the fuel pump was not running. I tapped it with a screwdriver and it started right up.

Soundguy. Like you said, fix the mechanical pump.

it's a PITA where it is.. but it DOES work... same witht he carb. when it works.. it works good.. very efficient on fuel..

try some crayon anf a rag on the numbers.. or a mirror sometimes help with bright light..
