Dirt Moving New to the forum

Hi all,

I have a 90 Kubota R 400 loader / backhoe, with all the goodies, 4 in 1 bucket, 3/4 yard, 1 yard light materials bucket, fork attachments, auger, and a few other misc. things.

I would like to talk with any other R400 owners and see if they have had issues with the hydraulic oil, I hear what sounds like cavitation but I'm not sure. The oil is coffee/cream colored. I have loaned it out to friends and I am not sure what has happened. It works fine once it has a chance to warm up, the cavitation noise seems to disappear.

The Transmission oil (engine oil) seems to remain clear, even though when it starts up, there is a slight 30-40 second lag before the unit takes off. I had EVERYTHING serviced at 2600 hours about 300 hours back. Engine oil and filters were changed 100 hrs back.

This loader gets very little use, just digging a trench or moving manure for a few hours a month. I have no shop or overhang to park it under so it does get more weather than I would like.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

You either have water in the hydraulic oil or a loose suction hose if it is clamped with a hose clamp.

If it remains creme colored you should change the oil and check the suction line for a pin hole leak or a loose hose clamp.

The pumps may need to be changed if it continues as you rmachine is 20 years old.

Welcome to the forum! I would think there are others who own similar equipment and hopefully will post. Color does sound like water or moisture in oil.

Thanks for the hearty hello,

I will be pulling the filters on the hydraulic tank tomorrow and get the scope out to see the insides. I will double check the suction hoses and check for leaks too.

At 2000 hours I took the tractor in to the Local C & N tractor guys, told them to go through all filters, screens, replace all oils, filters, replace a broken bolt that holds the Backhoe Frame to the tractor etc.... 2 Weeks later and $2600 dollars in their pockets, I got my loader back, It sat for almost a year. Then I loaned it to a friend and he changed the oil and found an original filter dated 4/99 on it. That made me wonder what work the dealership did, so I checked to see if they had replaced the broken bolt... nada still there. That dealership just did not have a clue.
