New to me Meteor snowblower

Hey all, just picked up our new to us Meteor snowblower. The P.O. used it once, set it out in a field and forgot about it. Other than the paint and the chute rotator it is in excellent shape. The PTO shaft was damaged by the P.O. so the dealer I bought it from (Frost Farm in Greenville N.H.) has ordered a brand new shaft for me. I Paid $750 for the whole thing with the new shaft included, I figure a couple of hundred bucks for sandblasting and paint and we'll have a nice blower that will last as long as I'm going to need it....take care, Rick

Your Meteor and my Lucknow are similar except mine is a bit wider.

After sandblasting but prior to painting, I'd do 2 things. One, I'd install a hydraulic chute rotator and two, I'd remove the outboard sheet metal skid shoes and weld on angle brackets to the lower inboard gussets (under where the 3 point hitch arms are welded to the blower body) drilled to accept round Meyers type snow plow skid shoes.

You need to get the bottom edge of the blower about 1/4" off the ground or the blower will become a machine gun, picking up and throwing any small object like gravel.

I have a 51 Meteor for my SCUT. I love it. It's built loke a tank. You practically STOLE that thing. Congrats!

Nothing more enjoyable than blowing snow on a still night with a temperature of about 15f. My 3pt. blower is almost silent under power. I love that thing.!!:thumbsup:

that is what iv got a 51 in meteor on a bx 1830 05 and its work like a horse and its built tuff i didnt have trouble since iv had it mine is all hydroliq

Thanks for the kind words everyone, after closer inspection and lubrication I have come to the conclusion that this thing can't have ten hours on it. Took the auger drive chain off and soaked it, greased the bearings and changed the gearbox oil and runs smooth as silk....with the new PTO shaft we should be all set. I havent taken care of the chute yet and I'd like to to make it power when I do, but regardless of how it turns, I'll have it working as smooth as the rest of it.
Instead of installing skid shoes I plan to mount two heavy, large diameter pneumatic tire casters where the reinforcing braces meet the back of the blower housing, holding the cutting edge about 1" off the ground. Its a lttle bit more than our tractor really wants, but I figure real slow on the first pass and adjust from there........stay tuned and thanks again, Rick
