New to JD with an LX178

/ New to JD with an LX178 #11
Reading this thread sounds so much like my LX188 experience. Being somewhat fanatical over details, I was determined to get my tractor to run good by pretty much restoring it.
Carb work, New JD mechanical pump, fuel lines, etc. Not to mention: Belts, pulleys, deck lift parts, tires, new seat.... About $1K later, I have a perfect running running lawn tractor that would blow away any new tractor in it's price range.

The engine runs so good, I can engage the PTO with the throttle about 1/4. & I have the 48" deck... My NEW X540 stalls unless it is wide open!!!

When My (old) fuel pump started spitting fuel, I thought about alternatives. The 'vacuum' powered pump seemed like the best alternative, except that I could not find a good location for a port. (To connect the vacuum line to power the pump.) An electric pump may be too much for the charging system. It does not have much extra amp's after recharging the battery. The electric pump may cause lower voltage issues with other components.
It was the new stock mechanical pump for me.... It is better, and has vent hoses to keep any fuel away from the exhaust if it leaks again. Besides, the original pump lasted at least 15 years.
