Rotary Cutter New to bush hogging , safety question

A forestry mower (ie: Tree Cutters | Brown Manufacturing | 800-633-8909 ) such as is mounted to a tractor 3 point or the arms of a skidsteer or trackloader which has an unguarded front to allow chopping down trees, can be raised 6-8 feet in the air and angled up steeply (if loader mounted) is a very different machine in terms of general usage and the dangerzone than a bushhog that stays flat, within a couple feet of the ground and has steel and chain or rubber guards to stop flying objects.

Just to clarify to you Aaron, I know how forestry mowers are constructed
powered, and how that can be used or miss-used.

The rotary forestry mower was on the GROUND with a log skidder as the prime
mover power when this happened and the area being cleared/cleaned was
10 feet higher in elevation than my property when my garage window was broken.

There is another thing that chaps my arse . Thesecommercial mowers with the discharge chute bungeed up . If them $10,000 mowers cant discharge grass , maybe someone ought to look into that .The a$$hole that mows the church across the road sent a projectile through my garage door whilst I had 4 grandsons present .We had a very intense discussion and he left . Sharon , the pastor made him responsible and he paid . The point is garage door , or grandson .

What are your plans for the 30 acres? 30 acres of lawn, 30 acres or wildlife refuge or 30 acres of crop land?
All too often we see somebody all excited about moving to the country estate for peace, quiet and the cute wee forest animals.
The new owners run out , purchase a rotary cutter and a Ford N series tractor.
If they don't flip the tractor on top of themselves. They proudly look at their new "lawn". Then they get all hissy with hunters, trappers and farmers . For killing off all the wee critters because there are no more animals around.
They don't seem to realize that they just chopped down the wildlife habitat, wildlife food sources and chopped up the youngsters in the nests.

I offer my sympathies entirely with that issue.
Thirty plus years ago when Mott Mower Inc. was a going concern they had one a beauty of
belly mounted flailmower (before the rider lawn mowers invaded the market) that fit under small farm
tractors like the original IH cub Lowboy and others and they did an excellent job of mowing.

If the Dixie chopper lawn mower folks and others mounted a flail mower attachment
with a four row finish mower rotor with the three inch side slicers using a
72 station rotor that also included dethatching blades they would have a
definite winner and not have any clippings.

There are a lot of front mounted finish cut flail mowers used in Europe and elsewhere.


But as belly mowers are so cheap to make I do not see this happening of course.
