I have a 1953 35HP 2WD Massey that is built STRONG - enough iron to make two contemporary tractors (but not enough plastic to do so). It came with my new property, along with a bush hog, rear platform lift and plow blade. I have added an attachment for pulling a utility trailer. I wish that it had an FEL. If it did, I would not be looking at new tractors. The Massey is too old to start retrofitting hydraulics for an FEL. Now that I have started to look at tractors, I am very interested in HSTs, and the wide range of attachments available - especially, BH, auger, grapple and box blade. I have a free-standing chipper/shredder that is massive enough for my uses. At some point though, I may be interested in a finish mower. I do a lot of work with my hands and back - digging, double digging, composting, tree cutting, log splitting, using a scythe for high grass and woody growth, etc, even raking ~ 1.25 acres in the fall. This is great for breaking a sweat and developing well-earned strength after the soreness wanes. However, I work outside of the farm to earn a living; a good tractor will help speed-up some work, since time is short and it will be indispensable in clearing a pine grove, removing stumps and making a pond. My wife and I are developing an organic hobby farm on our ~ 18 acres of which ~ 8 acres is wooded. The farm will include fig trees , hence the moniker. I am new enough to not have much to inform others about tractors. TBN has provided me with some very useful information. I will add to this base when I have something meaningful to contribute.
