Their line don't look too bad for a start.
It takes some kind of 'nads to jump into the pool with the likes of Bosch, DeWalt, Hilti, Makita, Hitachi, and Milwaukee. Talk about stiff competition! People tend to take their choices in power tools very seriously. Case in point, look at how right here on the board, people swear by "their" brand of chainsaw. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Got to agree with you on all counts. Many very good tool brands are now out of business or have been bought up by other companies. Let's face it some people are extremely loyal, sometimes even to a fault. No other way to explain their actions. Snap-on tools for example.

In 1999 I bought a $25 cordless drill from Sears to install a new roof on my barn. I figured that I had a 50-50 chance of dropping it 40 feet from the peak and figured I would save the Makita I bought the year before.

Well the $25 drill did the job and worked for another 6 years including installing the new roof on my new home this past fall! The Makita ($150), died in 2002 and only saw 1/2 the work. There is some kind of lesson here...

I still want a new Milwaukee drill though... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do they make a chain saw or weed trimmer brand other than husky? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Of course they do! All them different colored ones at HD and Lowes! John Deere has some good green saws and yellow trimmers. You know, some people swear by some of those brands. I've got a friend who loves his McCollough, and another one who loves his Poulan. Quite a while back, I even had real good luck with a Homelite (cheap saw, but, always started with a couple of pulls). Quality wasn't like an expensive European or Aisan saw, but was good enough, in fact, before I ever wore out the chain or bar, it got stolen.
To each his own.

I'll wait until Tools of the Trade does a review. Milwaukee has been a bit of an underperformer in the last number of years by Tools of the trades reviews. The 28V isn't appealing, it's the Lithium battery that I am anxious to hear about. If it can be recahrged successfully without complications, then thats great, but if it has an overall lifespan similar to NiCad, then the year or so of pleasure will quickly sour when the price of a new battery is encountered.

I want a new Milwaukee drill also but not a cordless drill. I have a Makita cordless that's been around for years. I use it when we don't have power available, but I want a corded Holeshooter. Hello eBay.......

I'm pretty much color-blind when it comes to power tools, about the only brand I don't own is Hitachi. As long as the quality and ergonomics are good, brand doesn't matter. But yeah...

I want a new Milwaukee 28

I wonder how many times I'll have to "accidentally" drop my Dewalt off a ladder this summer before it breaks? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

TBrown,
Don't discount Hitachi, they make awefully good stuff across the board. Whether you need a monorail train, a nuclear power plant, steel, or just a big plasma television, Hitachi's got you covered. They make about everything. They're at least as big as GE! John Deere could have partnered with any outfit and they chose Hitachi. Take a look at the John Deere excavators and the power tools. They are Hitachi.
