Well, I am pretty sure I am pulling the trigger and buying my first riding mower tomorrow. I have decided on a 1042 after much researching, and internal debate. I hope I have made a good choice, would be a pretty expensive mistake!

I would look at the 1045 for a $100 more. It has a true hydrostatic axle and from what I understand the 1042 has a cheaper, less reliable CVT axle. I have the 1050 and really like it so far.

I too am looking for a new tractor.

the units i have looked at are the
cc 1046 46" deck - 20HP kolar
cc 1050 50" deck - 23 HP kolar
husqvarna YTH2448T 48" deck 24HP briggs

my yard is 1 1/4 acre, i has some trees and hills. of these what would my best option be and why? i am having trouble picking a deck size (as you can see). what is needed for a yard that size?

Too late, I bought it. I wanted the smaller 42" deck, and got the 2 years 0% financing with the 1042. I anm hoping I will be happy with it.

1042 and 1045 - both are hydrostatic... the 1040 is CVT..

Good call. I was going from info the kid at Home Depo gave me. That was my mistake.
