international 574
I recently purchased a Int. 574,gas wide front end that has sat out in a field for the past year, someone stole the key. I had it hauled home , changed the ignition switch, cleaned the fuel bowl and battery, added 5gal of high octane gas. Started right up. Has a radiator leak, can't pull oil dipstick out??Trick? came with a "bushhog"72SQ-power take off turns, but blade doesn't turn. Is there a shear pin beside the slip clutch? I can't work on it until end of week. lots to learn about site and 574

Be careful if you yank the oil dipstick. On my IHs, the stopper cap is brazed to the stick. With rough use, they can loosen and give you nonaccurate readings. My big Cat developed a radiator leak. I poured in 2 bottles of BarS. Like plastic pellets, they melt and plug any leaks. Its been 6 months, time will tell if its any good. Not a hard choice, for a $3-5,000 radiator. :)

solder the leak in the radiator.. save the core plugging snake oils for emergencies beside the road.

as for the mower..check to see if the shaft at the gearbox input shaft is turning, but not the input shaft. on units with a slip clutch, there will be a hard bolt holding the shaft to the input shaft... on units with no slip clutch, that will be a soft bolt instead, and intended to be used as a shear bolt.

forget the hi octane gas.. it's harder to fire off.. use low octane instead.. that machine was designed for 70's octante fuel.
