A Flail would be very nice. THe offset would be great for getting under brush and trees.

Got a quote yesterday for a FM41 $5500.

Not thrilled by the price, but a 84" bush hog in the same capacity is going to be over 4k, so its not THAT much of a up charge. And the flail shortens the overall length of the tractor/cutter by about 5-6 feet.

That's an 88" flail, with an additional +/-8" of offset. An 88" mower should hang about a foot beyond each side, and with the offset, I could get 18" on one side, and still fully cut my wheel width on the other side.

The FM41 says it can cut brush to 2" so it should do all the 'rough' cutting I need. If its bigger than 2" I'll put the grapple/root-rake to it and grub it out.... or get a chain saw for the 6+ stuff.

I'd love to have that mower. This one does not make my priority list right now though. Next pour chase is some good pallet forks. After that I will need a decent tree spade.

how much do you have to mow?

'eh they are only about $500-600 thats easy once you are into a M59

how much do you have to mow?

1 Mile of fence line, and about 1 mile of trails interior to the property that I need to keep the brush from overtaking.

Driveway is 2000' and I've got about 10-20' on either side, so about 2 acres there.

I'm clearing for house site, and drain field, and sawmill will have about 3 acres there.

Phew, I'm tired just thinking about it.

Well I said earlier I wouldn't post any pictures of the tractor until I got it up to Colorado (which is what I got it for hence the sig), but here is one anyway. This is using a pair of 8 foot fork extensions on 48" Bradco forks to move my truck camper.. The M59 can handle it just fine. I have to say, it has been very handy having the M59 around, even around my work home in New Mexico.

That is a big level arm! I did not know you could get forks the big.

I used the M59 all day today. I can't believe how much I got done. I finished mowing the back of the property, Cleared some brush., Moved 2 brush piles, put the BH back on, took out 4 stumps and then dug a drainage trench......I'm going to run out of things to do soon..........not realy I have to clear about 5 acres yet.

I spent several hours leveling about 70 feet of ground where I earlier removed three stumps and a lot of dead landscaping that got killed off when it was -18 here the winter before last (we are still recovering from that here; very cold as we are not that from from the Mexican border). Anyway, after getting the camper and tractor nicely tucked away in the shade we had one of those big NM hail storms! Six inches of water in front of the tractor, bummer. See picture below. The white stuff you see floating in the water and on the ground behind the tree is hail. There are still snowdrifts of it as I type this. Bummer. But hey we needed the rain desperately here.

The 59 will run an auger just fine! I recommend you take a look at the Belltec H-300. It will drill into solid rock (not kidding) and in my opinion is of better quality than the mcmillan (larger internal gears and gear surfaces). The price surprised me too! I've rented skid steer mounted mcmillan units in the past with high-flow and when mounted on the backhoe the M59 will out drill them. I suspect it's because you can get more down pressure on the auger.

in action the first day I got it set up on the backhoe. I needed a bit of practice keeping level!

How has the H300 been doing? Do you wish you went with a more powerufl unit?
