Well, I did it. After reading lots of threads on this website, and explaining (for a few weeks) to my wife why I had to move up from buying an L3400, I took the plunge. I think she was worn out from all the hours I'd spent "researching", and just wanted me to get the #@%$&! thing! I learned a lot from all the great suggestions and comments I've read here, and I've been amazed at how generous everyone is with their expertise.

Unfortunately, I'm going out of town next week and the dealer couldn't get the remote valve installed and get it delivered before I leave. So I've got to wait almost two weeks before the Big Day.

This is a totally new adventure for me. We bought our farm in New York state over 25 years ago and I commuted from it to NYC. Now I'm cutting back at work--starting in 2008 I'll only spend 3 days a week in the city and 4 on the farm. We have over 80 acres, but a lot of it is wooded and wetland. About 25 acres can be used for row crops, and we plan to team up with a nearby organic farmer after we have built up the soil. Lots of trees have sprung up in the fields, which haven't been tilled since we bought the farm, and some probably not for 50 years--so we're cutting the trees down and plan to pull the stumps (which is one reason I wanted the L4240), then start planting cover crops and re-building the soil. We have excellent soil but certain nutrients are low. This is all new to me, and I don't know where it's going, but I figure that I can't go wrong by starting to rebuild the soil.

So in two weeks I'll have the tractor with the LA853 loader and BH90 with a 72" Landpride bush hog, and I'll be ready to start work. Very exciting--feels like I'm 18 again, knocked off 45 years! I'll probably have plenty of questions once I get going, and I know where to go for good advice, so you folks will be hearing from me, and thanks in advance!

Congrats!! I didn't know about this site when I got my 1st tractor and I was on my own.I would have bought a slighty bigger one if I had known better. We all start somewhere.
Just make sure you don't smile more on your new toy than you do at your wife!!!It can be easy to do!
