Thanks for all the replies.

Any concerns that the box isn't QA on the L4240? Any really disadvantage?

As I've never bought a used tractor and I'm not the most mechanical person out there, any advice regarding questions to ask and things to check?

The tractor is about 4 hours away so I'll likely only make one trip (borrowing a friend's trailer), so I'll need to get questions answered ahead of time and then try to determine any issues when I go see it. He did say he did the routine maintenance and I'd ask for the records? Any other things I should be on the lookout for.

Lastly, thoughts on the prices for the L3800 and the L4240?

Thanks.

A tractor with that few hours should be in great shape, check for any signs of abuse and ask about maintenance. You can ask him as if you need advice on how to maintain it and see how well he can answer.

I'm assuming you've been to the Kubota website or tractordata.com and looked up the specs on that machine. You'll know it's pretty heavy and you need the right tow vehicle and trailer for the weight.

SSQA is a big deal for me, last night alone I switch between my forks and bucket twice. It depends on what you're going to do with it, but well worth adding IMO. I wouldn't pass it up just because of that though.

Only if you want to remove bucket and mount pallet forks, snow blade, or other bucket. The FEL is super easy to remove and mount, so I always take my FEL when mowing. I have hit too many things while mowing with FEL attached.

Make sure your truck and trailer are up to the task with proper load ratings. I would suggest a minimum 18' long trailer (16' +2' beaver tail is okay). Trailer brakes functional? Take plenty of chain and straps so you have options to tie down.

With FEL, it is a long package. Here is L3940 + FEL. Granted, I have implement on back, but you still need angle on your chains for proper tie down.

Thanks. Friend's trailer is 18'. I'll check the specs on my 2010 Expedition EL (HD towing package). If not, my buddy's got 2500HD Chevy that should the trick (for a few post trip cold ones).

FYI. My L3940 weights 3627#, FEL 1486#, and trailer 2640#. Grand total is 7753#. This puts a little over 1200# tongue weight on my truck. Philip.

Philip: Yikes. I've got the HD Towing Package and can pull 8,700 lbs, but max tongue weight is 890 lbs. Don't know the weight of the trailer but will ask my friend. May need to go to plan B.

If you have room on trailer, move tractor back to reduce tongue weight. You can always look at backing tractor on, don't know if that would help or not. Philip.

Prices on both sound pretty good.

I have a buddy with a 4240 and he loves it.

I bought a like new L3800 recently and I love it! Plenty of power, very nimble, lot of traction with filled R1 ag tires. Only use 4wd when using loader, otherwise not needed. This tractor has surpassed my expectations.

I really didn't see anything you listed saying you need the mid pto. I have it on my 4240 so I can confirm you can get it. But the dealer said that to install it they had to split the tractor in two. Fine when buying new but if you have to pay a dealer to install it the price may be higher than you think. That being said I would go with the 4240 if it's hst and in good shape.

Mid pto for possible front mounted snowblower which I think would be easier to use clearing my driveway. I'll have to talk to my local dealer and see what he says about cost to add.

I actually asked him today to give me a quote on a L3940 with QA bucket. Want to see the cost of a new GL which would give me a warranty + the features of the GL. Not sure I necessarily need the L4240 and the L3940 has been on the lot. Still leaning toward the L4240 but if the cost of adding the mid pto is significant it loses some points.

Anyone have any thoughts what a good price would be for the L3940 with R4's?
