2014 Kioti DS4510HS
Hello all. I am a new Kioti owner and still have my old 1969 John Deere 1520 with a FEL. Will be selling this soon to help pay for the new Kioti. I have a couple of questions to ask that I have not found the answer to by looking here and on other sites.
First question regards how long to hold on the manual glow plugs on my machine for cold weather starting and what the throttle should be positioned at when starting. I have been trying it at 30 seconds and about 1/8 on the hand throttle. It starts, but stutters and makes a ton of smoke that fills up the barn. It takes a couple of minutes to clear up and is fine after warming up a little. The second question regards warranty registration. I did not receive anything from the dealer. Do they register the warranty, or do I have to do it? There is nothing in the owners manual about this. I know I should be able to go to my dealer with these questions but the one thing I made a mistake on was choosing the dealer. I am not going to bash them here, but they have been totally unresponsive since the sale. Live and learn. I researched the tractor to death, but not so much when it came to the dealer. I have already ordered a set of quick attach forks and am looking at the Piranha tooth bar as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have already gained a ton of knowledge by reading on this forum.

Dealer would have registered your warranty.

Roadhunter, does your tractor smoke a lot when cold starting? Engine 29, did you get anything from the dealer when they registered it for you? Anyone out there with a ds 4510 or other Kioti with manual glow plugs? I have read here that auto glow plugs also stay on for a little bit after it starts running to help with the cold starts. Thanks guys for your replies.

I can't comment specifically on the Kioti but my Massey has manual glow plugs. I cycle them for 30 sec (per the manual) and then start the engine with the throttle set to about 25% or 1400 rpm. It spits and sputters for a few seconds and then runs fine. I will be installing a block heater before next winter to help with the cold starts.

All the ds4110 and ds4510 should have came with manual glow plugs. I have always went with the 10 second rule but it doesn't get that cold here. Sorry to here about the lack of support from your dealer and hopefully there is a more reputable dealer close by. If the dealer didn't file the warranty the would not receive rebates from Kioti.

We have a DS4110HS. Just turned 200 hours. Our cold start procedure is 8 seconds for glow plug stop for a 2 Seconds and a second 8 second hold. Fire up about 1200 rpm and live with the typical lots of smoke for the first 10 to 15 seconds and then the normal idle returns. I believe your dealer sent in your warranty info. Ours did in Canada. Enjoy the toy, it's the best bang for the buck out there. So good my dealer offered more on a trade in then the unit cost me originally.

The only thing I would recommend that you have on hand are the two relays under the hood on the firewall. I can't remember the specs offhand, yet both failed on a day the dealer was closed. Pick up a Bosch version of the two relays and keep them around. You will need them within the next 100 hours. Only issue we have had. And it's cheap.

I have DS 4110. Not that cold here so I just use ten second rule. Would advise keeping your ignition switch dry. (unless Kioti has improved the switch). They corrode easily. Have enjoyed my tractor. Congratulations on tours

Your DS4510 HS should have an automatic glow plug controller. The controller looks at the engine coolant temp and decides how long to leave the plugs on. If you turn the key to run and watch the dash, an orange indicator light with a squiggly line will illuminate. As soon as that light goes out you crank the engine. It will start right up. Yes it will rattle, bang, grunt, and smoke if it is cold out. If you want to reduce the smoke a block heater will help.

Hope this helps.

Hard Knocks

The DS4510 has a manual glow plug system. You turn the key switch to the left and a glow plug light comes on. I was just concerned that holding it on for too long may be damaging to the engine. I was using 30 seconds and then starting with the throttle at idle. Got lots of noise and smoke for a while and would then clear up. Looks like I am OK doing it this way, but I will experiment and see if it will start with a little less time.Fireman022, thanks for the suggestions. Any idea where I can find the relays on line? Also I read somewhere that there were shop manuals that could be downloaded free. Does anyone know about those.
Thanks to all who gave me info.
