New Holland TC45D won't start fuel supply issue

You should have a good amount come from the returns. What ever the injectors don’t use is what’s being sent back.

Where does the line from the top of the tank go? I see the line from filter to the rail but can't see where the line from the tank goes

It should be hooked to a t in the return line. Mine goes as follows. Rubber return from injector about 6” long , plastic tee fitting , 6” hose to filter housing , other hose from tee returns to tank. My understanding of this fuel system is that with the tee this will keep the fuel bowl full and burp air back up the tank return line. In theory should. Once the bowls full it returns to tank.

When ever I change filters I’m left with a little bit of air at the top until I run it for a bit. It eventually pushes the air out and keeps the housing full.

Hmmm. That explains why the return was dry at the tank. Good to know. Thank you!!

This is a big shift in my understanding of this system. That line takes raw fuel from the injector lines and dumps it back to the filter. So where does the line from the top of the tank go and it's function? I thought it just recovered fuel.
Is there a diagram somewhere that shows fuel flow? I blew some air in the tank and that line brought a lot of fuel up.
I think this is the diagram:

Thank you. That is the first time it registered in my brain that auto bleed is at full throttle :)

Does anyone know how much fuel should come out of the return line off the top of the shutoff? Cranked it with out it attached and got a lot more3 then expected!
I capped off the line from the top of the fuel filter and the where it tees into the return line.

Once that was done my fuel filter stayed full of fuel when running.

I may have to give that a try although my bowl stays full all the time.

Okay I stepped away from it for a few days and trying again.
Really sucks that it isn't running to deal with Helene aftermath.
1 Injector was wet and I drew down on it and its staying dry now. Been pressurizing the fuel tank and can not see any wetness at all. Not from lines or other hardware.
And now I have a couple more questions So it runs on ether. How much is too much. I was trying to get it to pull some fuel that way but no go yet.
Also I know the function of the air cleaner in a car. Draws air to the carb. What is the function of air filter on diesel injection
Once again any help is appreciated!!

Does your shut off solenoid work.?? It’s screwed into the LEFT SIDE of the inj pump housing.. should have 1 wire to it..
Leave the steel lines from the inj pump loose AT THE INJECTORS while cranking the engine to bleed the air out..
U should be able to HEAR the solenoid clicking on and off..
