New Holland TC30
Hi all - I have a New Holland TC30 (1999, maybe 2000 or 2001). Lately it has been acting like it thinks I am not in the operator's seat when trying to start. It will start fine, and sit there and run all day as long as the parking brake is set and the gear shift is in neutral (it is a hydrostatic). However, as soon as I release the brake or shift it into gear, it shuts down, as if I am not in the seat. I disconnected the safety switch that is under the seat and put a jumper wire across the connectors coming from the wiring harness, but this did not help. Is there another switch or relay somewhere down the line that I should be looking at? Is there any way to bypass the whole darn seat safety switch circuit? By the way, sometimes it will fire right up and run fine, which is doubly puzzling. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Try to access a schematic diagram, especially of the safety circuits. Your tractor may have been happy just by unplugging the switch, without the jumper. If you have more than two wires on the connector you may need a specific combination of open and shorted. If all else fails you could just buy a new switch.

JC1953- It's been a long time since I had a similar situation, but if I remember correctly there's another (HST?) safety switch with the wiring harness underneath the HST shifter. You may have a disconnected wire in one of the wire harness couplers.

I hope this helps... Good luck

BTW - The TC30 model was made from 2001-2008.

I second that suggestion. I have a New Holland TC45 of the same vintage and have had issues with the range selector/neutral safety switch.
Tractor will operate as advertised for months then for no reason will not start with out fiddling with the selector lever by moving it from hi to lo range several times.

I have a sweat spot between M and H range, but I do not always find it the first time when starting.

Thanks. Pretty sure it's in the seat safety circuit though. I can fiddle with the selector lever all day, but it will only crank and fire if the parking brake is also set. Then it dies like I'm out of the seat if I take the brake off or move it into gear. The schematic shows something called a "Seat safety switch timer" in addition to the safety switch. Anybody know what the heck the safety switch timer is, and what it might have to do with starting and running?

I believe the timer starts when it does not detect you in the seat any more, like when you would go over a bump and you raise out of the seat, if the seat switch is not made before the timer (maybe 3-4 seconds) the engine will be shutoff.
