Hi everyone,

A few years ago my family inherited a 25 acre farm when my grandfather rolled an old snapper mower down a hill breaking his neck

Anyways I'm completely new to farming and have been lurking this forum for quite a while now.

The property is a 25 acre farm with a 1 acre pond. 2, 5 acre pastures separates by a creek. And 2 gardens.

I'm in the market for a tractor 4wd fel, I can buy implements separately budget 12k

Thought I'd finally signup

Welcome and good luck with your tractor search. I'm fairly new here but you will find plenty of good people with lots of knowledge to help in your hunt. By the way I'm partial to GREEN

First, welcome to TBN.

You will obviously need to be looking in the used market with a budget of 12K (unless you mean that you have a 12K implement budget which seems unlikely). Or, unless you are willing to take a loan to get a new tractor. Frankly, 12K is not a lot for a 30-40hp 4wd tractor that would be the minimum size you'd want on a 25 acre farm with 10 acres of pastureland to maintain. You don't tell us much else about what you intend to do with the farm but even just keeping it from returning to scrub forest will require at a bare minimum annual bush hogging and you'd need a bare minimum of a tractor capable of handling a 5 or 6 foot wide bush hog to do that. Realistically for a new CUT tractor in the 30hp size range you are looking at close to 20K new with FEL. Good news (relative) is that you can get 0% interest loans for five or six years from several manufacturers (Kioti, Mahindra, LS?) that make reliable strong tractors in that size range. Add another $4K or so if you want more famous brands like Kubota or JD or NH. The tractors are all reliable and have roughly the same features however so with a smaller budget I would recommend staying away from Kubota and JD just on lower bang for buck basis. Check out a few dealerships near by but don't be shy about purchasing from further away if you can transport the tractor. Used CUT tractors in the size range you'd need (30-40hp) are pretty pricey ($14-20K) and as they don't come with the 0% interest option are often not as good a deal as new. You might be able to find a higher hour higher horsepower and older utility tractor for your budget but you'd have to be prepared to do more maintenance so that might not be the greatest idea especially since you really don't need the bigger size.

If I were in your shoes I would scan craigslist, read a lot here on TBN about all sorts of tractor and implement issues, go visit local tractor dealers selling different color machines and do some soul searching regarding what sort of financial investment you are willing to make. If you can add a few thousand to your $12K stated budget you could get a good used 30-40hp 4wd tractor with FEL and under 500 hours on the meter from a number of manufacturers. Those used tractors would have a lot of life left in them so long as they had been properly maintained. If you think finances will open up down the road then it might not be a bad idea to take out a zero percent loan on a new tractor and put the 12K in the bank to make the monthly payments for a couple of years.

G'day and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

I'm a GREEN fan too... but you'll have noticed that we don't tend to push any particular colour.

Enjoy the site!

On a tablet takes me forever to type on this thing. The cows keep the pasture I n shape . I have roughly 9 acres that need to be bushhoged monthly. Rest is woodland. I need to re grade the gravel road roughly 1/4 mile. Will need to hall firewood and gravel with fel. I've been thinking about the Ls g3033. When I said budget I meant how much cash was in hand

I haven't seen one myself but I only hear good things about the LS G3033 (except for the seat). I would still compare it to the roughly equivalent Mahindra and Kioti.. Not sure exactly which Mahindra compares but with Kioti it would be either the CK 30 or CK35 or if you can stretch the DK35. Any of those should be fine for the work you have in mind. All would fit your budget if you were willing to take a dealer loan.
