Hi All
I'm new to the farming scene having bought a small place (190 acres) in Boyup Brook which in the South West of Australia. I grew up on a farm in South Africa as a child, but was never involved in the farming operations, but its in my blood! I am in the process of re-fencing the place, have put a dam in, and am now looking at buying a tractor and hay making equipment. The hay will be used on the property as feed during autumn/ winter when our grass goes dormant (I will need approx 100 round bales). We will be running beef cattle, and a few sheep and goats.
Our farm is organic, so no spraying etc required, and no ploughing. We may grow oats for hay but will pasture crop it.
I would really appreciate some advice on what tractor (brand and hp) and hay making equipment i should look at (should i buy a mower-conditioner, if so, do i need still need a rake or tedder). With mower-conditioners i see there are various types of cutters, sickle and drum or rotary. Any advice on what the best option is would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Alan
