New BX1870 - Some observations and questions

Good to know about operating at or near WOT. Anyone have any comments on the steering issues I talked about?

It's a long shot. Do you have R4's? The B7500 I had made an awful vibration on a hard left turn. When I discovered the source, I was relieved. The lugs of the R4's would rub against the drag link. No damage except for some paint rubbed off.

No, turf tires. I'll double check closer for any rubbing. I was looking for that but not closely.

One other thing to make sure of is that the 3 point hitch lever is centered in the neutral position. If this is a little off it can effect the hydraulics and make the steering feel "choppy".

I will respectfully disagree with the majority opinion so far. I've owned (for a short few months) a BX1850 and (for two years) an 1860. Never had any shuttering in the power steering no matter what I did, nor did I need to run the RPMs at 2,500 and above to do basic loader work. And, the loader had plenty of power for digging full buckets of topsoil or gravel. In fact, the first job my 1850 did was move 6 tons of gravel to make a pad for a future shed for the BX. I also dug a few boulders out of the ground with just the bucket. One was too big to pickup, but it was able to excavate around it and move it out of the hole using the curl function, then push it over to my stone wall. If you're having vibration or shuttering, or the machine feels like it's going to stall out, and you can't pick up a full load of heavy soil or stone, there's something wrong in the hydraulic system. First check would be to make sure your quick connects are seated, and the 3PH lever is in neutral. After that, I'd be getting the dealer involved since it's brand new.

If you are feeling it trying to shut off back on off from interpreting the shuttering thing- then you might be onto something. This tells you one of your safety switches is out of alignment and turning is twisting the frame enough to make it be at that fine line off/on . It could be one of the 2 seat switches. I highly doubt the pto switch, hst switch as you are in the seat and driving it and you should be able to engage and disengage the pto any given time while in the seat. You SHOULD be able to drive your BX below 2500 rpms even though its designed to run WOT. The other possibility is that if you have the MMM mounted and its in the MMM only or MMM and rear - perhaps the pto is trying to engage disengage several times making the engine "lug" when turning. I would also check the linkage of the pto engagement but I highly doubt this but its a real possibility.

Also yes you need to be above 2700/2800 to 3200 rpms to have good lifting/curling power of BX bucket. Its a BX, not a B-L series where it has good power at lower rpm's.

I appreciate all the advice guys, next time I'm on it I'll look at the things you all mentioned closely and see if I notice anything. I haven't done much with the loader but I did scoop up some dirt from an old, well compacted pile. It did absolutely fine with that. The steering thing is my main concern. It will go back to dealer if it can't be resolved.

My 1860 has about 50hrs now. Haven't noticed any of the issues you mention.
Loader works great above idle, and has picked up alot (logs and gravel). Haven't dug with it.
I am small (160lb) and noticed the seat switch was causing it to cut in and out on bumps so I bypassed it.
The only thing that is hard to get used to is how loud it is at idle.

I agree with Chris... I pretty much never (over 110hrs in less than a year of use) run 2500rpm or higher and have never felt the need to do so. I have moved more than a hundred yards of dirt, gravel, digging, etc. with FEL. Yes understand a little more hp with 25D. Don't mean to be scaring you though. I just feel that over 2500rpm it gets louder more than I get power... if that makes sense.

Just a quick thought, have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? It's possible that it was low from the factory and didn't get checked by the dealer. A low fluid level might explain some of your symptoms and would be easy enough to check/fit.

My BX2350 can do most of it's work below 2300rpm and have never needed to go above 2700. Good luck.

Yes, I checked all fluids and they checked ok. You guys check hydro fluid hot or cold?
