Hi,
I'm new to the board but have been lurking here for a while. I finally broke down today and bought a bx1500 with a 54 mmm and tiller. I payed 10000 for the whole package, 8700 without the tiller. is this price in the ballpark or is the dealer overcharging me for the tiller? is the 1500 big enough for my 5 acres or did i go too small? All i'll use it for is mowing and planting my deer feed plots on my property as well as my hunting property. I'll get a blower for it in the fall but when that comes i'll ask the experts on what to get!!

Ptibill,

You can anything with a smaller tractor that you can with a larger tractor. It will just take you more time to do it. On your 5 acres what portion are you mowing? How many acres are you planting for corn plots. I think you will get a bunch of ideas here. I would tend to think that you went maybe just a bit too small but like I said, it will work but just take a bit longer. I think you got a good deal on the tractor. The tiller you may have been able to get a better price on but area makes a big difference.

I probably confused you.

of the 5 acres, 2.5 are open and the rest is woods and swampland (boarders 300 acres of wetlands- bogs, swamps and ponds)- the hunting land is 50 acres of pasture and 55 acres of oak and maple. i plan to plant 1 acre food plots here and there of clover and other wildlife forage.

Congratulations on the bx. The 1500 should serve you well. BTW, how big a tiller did you get? IMHO, that might be the one item that will push your bx's horsepower limits depending on your ground. Please keep us up to date on how it works with the tiller as many probably wonder how the 15 hp unit will run with that load.

Welcome to the site pitbull! As far as the price goes...I had a price of $8,449 for that setup, so you are certainly in the ballpark! What did you use before you bought the bx1500? I am assuming something smaller? If that is the case, the 1500 will seem fantastic to you! As far as...did you go too small? It IS A KUBOTA....I am sure you will work it hard over time, and i am sure it will handle all the mowing, you may find that more hp would be nice for some attachments, but other than that, you should be fine. Please keep us all posted on how things go, and best of luck to ya! KEvin

pitbill,

I too was concerned about the hp of the BX1500 but brought tractor w/54" deck($8800)/loader/blade home a couple of weeks ago. This weekend I moved 23 tons of gravel into a 200' x 3' french drain and backfilled it all in one day! The ditch was doug with a bobcat hoe but I don't think I moved the throttle much above 1/2 RPM's. Fear not, I think we 1500 owners won't be sorry.
