After much agonizing, deciding, and re-deciding, I pulled the trigger on the purchase of a new (well, 2009) New Holland Boomer 8N from Tim at New Albany Tractor Sales in Indiana. I bought it with a QA FEL and Hawkline 6 foot slip clutch shredder, Rimguard R-4 tires, and a red front grill guard. Tim threw in a block heater. The tractor has about 12 hours on it.

Even with delivery from Indiana to New York, the cost of this 50 hp tractor was less than a dickered price on a similarly-equipped Kubota L3940 with 40.5 hp. It is far less than a similarly-equipped John Deere 4120.

Without getting into brand comparisons, with the deals you can get now on the New Holland 8N, it is a heck of a value. I know they were way over-priced when they came out, but now it's a different story. I found dealing with Tim a pleasurable experience, and I think he gave me a fair (a very good) deal. I checked a reference he provided of a fellow who had bought an 8N from them, and the reference gave Tim glowing comments.

I don't like the chrome ROPS. It makes me cringe every time I see it. I know the real farmers will mock me for it. I think I'll have a smug smile every time I see that chrome ROPS, though, because I think that kept some farmers from buying the units (along with the too, too high price), and that is why I was able to get one at a great price.

I get delivery the last of March, and I will post photos.

I've been looking at the Boomer as well.

The cheapest I've seen for a low hour unit (a demo) was 25K

Did you get it for around that? I'd like to know what deals are out there.

I like mine, plenty of power, the chrome ROPS isn't that bad. Just came in from mowing to look at the manual, FYI preset cruise only operates in high range.

Yep, theghoul, that price is right on target - for a unit that lists out at $40k or more. I'm telling you, the 8N at that price is one of the best (if not THE best) in the market today.

I also have an interest in an 8N w/FEL...is that the $40K package for about the $25K price? Thanks in advance...info would be helpful...TMR

TMR - I paid $27,300 for the package I described above, and that included transport (about $800-$1000). Do some comparisons - I don't think you'll find a 40hp Kubota or John Deere - much less a 50 hp with CVT trans - for that price.

Thanks for the info...is NH going to produce a 2011 or any more 8Ns? Quite a few in stock but they will begin to move a prices are reduced. I was just at a local sports show and NH dealer had a 2009 w/o FEL for about $35K...that's w/o FEL...they had not sold any yet :)

That's what I'm talking about - at that price, I think it's probably over-valued. Most of us buying tractors are going to buy the most tractor we can get at a given price, and we're not going to buy a tractor because it's cute and has chrome on it.

But lower that price significantly, and we will buy the value. For me, at the price I paid the 8N is absolutely the most tractor I could get. Believe me, I've been pricing them.

I suggest you give Tim an email or call.

When I first started looking at tractors, almost a year ago, I saw an 8N and immediately fell in love - until I heard the price. That was a year ago, and you can see they have not been moving at that price. Now, I think those dealers who are discounting them will not be able to keep them on the shelf.

The CNH website still lists them with the other current 2011 models. I couldn't get a 50 hp in another color with the same features for the same price. Mine was $22K cash or $25K financed at 0%. That is tractor only, no FEL. I did not need the FEL as I use this one for mowing.
