Good idea. If I can't see an obvious defect in an Oring or seal, then I'll post closeup pics of the parts for you to look at. I suppose the resolution will be high enough on this old 3.3mp digicam. And I'll be careful not to foul up the rest of the parts.

This end cap 'nut' #2 is a !@!# to get off. I'd hoped by this late in the morning it'd be disassembled. Pipe wrench, filter wrenches, vise-grip cylinder wrench, Aerokroil, propane heat . . . it's clamped hard in the vise with rubber bumpers, am worried about collapsing the tube if i clamp it any tighter. Painted on maybe. Do I need to find a spanner to get this booger off?

Sorry, but maybe a dumb question. Are you sure you're turning the nut the right way? I would swap ends in the vise so I could put my weight down on the wrench. If you're sure you are turning the correct way, you might want to get your pipe wrench tight on the nut, then wack it with a BFH.

Make sure there is no set screw or anything else to keep the nut from turning.

And the dogs are PO'd for not letting them in the shop so they can help -- a clean environment and three dogs wrestling don't work HA!

No set screw on it, or one inside the holes for the spanner. I'm torqueing it enough to flex the 1/4" steel benchtop and 1" plywood top underneath . . .and it ain't budging. Yet. I'll continue with the heat and lube-soak treatment for a while, no nut has yet defeated this nut.

Easy with the heat. You don't want to damage the good seals in there. I found that heat never really helped on a cylinder nut anyway.

Okay, I just took a good look at your cylinder and your pipe wrench. Dude, take that back to the garage sale. You need one like the one in the next post.
