My BCS 737 is 20 years old and still in fair shape. We saw a lot of these on smallholdings in Galicia (nw Spain) and that helped decide to get one. I have had a Honda 11-hp motor put in and that has enormously improved reliability and performance. I have to say that the ball-spring-detent gear shift mechanism is a design rejected in 1500 by Leonardo da Vinci and I have given up on it; the tiller runs in gear-2 all the time and is fine for both tilling and cutting; the PTO dis/engage now works with a pin drilled into the shift shaft and that works better than the official mechanism! We have a granite speckled 5-acre lot and the cutter bar takes a lot of abuse working around this. I use a new blade every two years and generally substitute in about 10 teeth before the current one goes kaput. I will say I find the metal durability of the cutter bar parts has declined over the years. I now use castellated nuts to keep the bar and blade assembly securely attached to the driver body. It would be hard to maintain the place with any other equipment and besides, it is a great workout!
