New basic EV truck

It’s kind of like the Roxor. The price is great, but it’s not street legal because of safety item that would jack up the price.

I'd keep a big truck, but for a couple of sheets of plywood, and sundries from the local lumber store, it would work just fine for me. The range isn't off the charts, but the typical 20-80% charge rates these days are about my typical rest stop every 3-4 hours, so it would work for me. But I am not a road warrior these days.

All the best,

Peter

Yeah I'd love it.

I rarely drive anywhere, occasionally an hour's drive; it would handle the local shopping and most of the Costco trip (40-50 miles depending on which one) and atypical doctor visits (also 50 miles).

I wouldn't buy one real soon, though, because we've got a reliable little car that still gets 30mpg (ish) that I use for those occasional small trips, but if I didn't have that, the slate thing would fit the bill.

I'd keep the big truck, too, for snow times and big loads; it's not worth enough to sell vs how much good it very occasionally does for me.

When Ford came out with the hybrid Maverick I was quite interested. At $20K I could run that and keep my Colorado as a hunting vehicle. Yet it was so popular that every year they stopped taking orders within days of accepting them for the new model year. One would think that would be an "Aha" moment... "they are so popular we should make more."

Instead they jacked up the price 25%.

Classic response from many manufacturers, and car manufacturers especially in my opinion.

They ship so many high price pickups here, that our local dealers won't take money in advance to order a lower end model. We ordered from a dealer two states over, flew there, drove back over two days, and saved a bundle over what we were quoted for a lesser truck. I don't get it. The price tag on some of the bling models blew me away, when I looked them not that long ago. A guy had pulled up next me coming off the interstate, and I hadn't heard of that 1/2 ton model, though I own a one ton of the same brand, albeit an almost base model. His truck was three times the price. Unreal. For something that depreciates every year, plus insurance, plus... perhaps it is "a fool and his money..." thing. Idk.

All the best,

Peter

Even worse, did you notice the 1,000 lb towing limit?
If I'm gonna own a truck I need it to be able to tow my tractor.
I was thinking that these are intended for around town small item transport. Maybe for a Costco run.

A local Ford dealer had a radio advertisement recently that said they have over 100 Ford Mavericks on their sales lot. I’ve never looked at them because my old diesel truck is only used when I need a truck and not a daily driver, so it gets limited mileage per year.

In my opinion I think that INTERNATIONAL sales ability need to be designed in from day 1. ie left AND right hand drive and meet international crashand pedestrian standards. This may get the volume up enough to be economic.

Dash board: analogue ( adjust by braille) GOOD MOVE. Not touch screen (eyes off road)

4X4 option

Cab and Chasis option for flat deck or custom body. Wellsides are to limiting, particulaly for side access to the front of the deck when you have a conopy fitted.

Tow rating: 1000lb is that a mis print? It seems very low.

Windows: will probably end up electric due to customer demand.

I might be a buyer at $25k. Built in my state and hopefully can get it serviced. It would meet 90% of our needs.
It's electric, there is no servicing other than rotating the tires.

I spent $50,000 on a new truck to save $125/ year on gas! 🤪

Yeah but you got more bells and whistles and you can get rid of those cassette tapes.

They've almost got it. Now, they just need to cut 1000 lbs off the weight and put in a gas engine with manual transmission and they would have something.

Basically, you would have a modern-day International Scout. Would probably sell millions of them.

Happens every time gas prices pass $4/gal. People rush to unload their "gas guzzlers" for cheap money to buy some cramped, underpowered little econobox to "save money" on gas.
Of course, once prices come back down they'll unload them and get something they really want.

This is exactly what I'm hoping for out of electric vehicles. A low cost vehicle that is just for running to town to get what I need, and bring it back home. No frills, nothing extra, and never having to stop at a gas station. It just has to be reliable.

Toyota has been talking about doing this with a gasoline engine, but the price seems to double for the US compared to what they can sell it for in other countries. If I feel that it's a quality vehicle, I'll buy one.

For me, it would be like buying my Kawasaki Mule. It won't replace my big truck, or anything else, it just gives me a cost-effective option to do things that would be easier in a smaller vehicle.

So true. And, for those of us who like to drive "cramped, underpowered little econoboxes", we have to try to figure out when the "cycle" is going to end, so we know when to buy our next new one.

I missed out on the last real Honda Civic (after they started making them gargantuan), so had to wait until 2007 to buy a subcompact two-door hatchback (Toyota Yaris). Now that I'm thinking of replacing that car, they have discontinued the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris, so there are basically no more "cramped, underpowered little econoboxes" right now (especially ones with manual transmissions). Hopefully the cycle will continue and someone will start making an actual small, fun hatchback again, but I'm not holding my breath.

When the current one goes to the crusher, I'll probably be stuck with small SUV with an automatic transmission, just like everybody else....

Conversely for somebody who needs a big truck; the time to buy is when gas is going for stupidly high prices.

It looks just like a Bronco II except for the back windows
