New Appalachian 20K Trailer ordered

I’m not sure if we are talking about the same thing as Civilian was. I thought he was talking about actually mounting a hitch ball up a few feet into the steel bed, just like on my Ram.
While having the gooseneck ball that far back starts to be more like a bumper pull, with that wheelbase I wouldn't worry about the front getting light. Especially not with a load in the bed.

In my case, putting 5,000lbs. a little behind the axle shouldn't be an issue at all, but I am thinking about making a second mount for the ball, in front of the 5th wheel. Not because of weight distribution, but to be able to shorten the combination by about two feet. Probably not worth the effort, and it would make taking all the tight curves around here worse.
