Hello Again! Well, I pulled the trigger on the 5103 this past week and took delivery Saturday. Here's the package:
2007 JD 5103 50hp tractor
Roof canopy
arm rests (on backorder)
Downward exhaust
Rhino TW72 mower
Brown Disc harrow
Could not get the 512 FEL on the package as the dealer was out of stock and unable to get one transferred in from another dealer. I will add this as soon as he gets it in.
General review: Great utility tractor. Plenty of power, basic layout and simple design. Comfy seat. Rode for about 3 hours and used a 1/4 tank of fuel. My left quad is a little sore from mashing the clutch. Not that it was stiff, just used some muscles I wasn't used to using. The dealer was supposed to put water in the tires but didn't. When I used the disc to harrow about 4 acres of food plots, the front end got a little light. I'm sure the FEL will help to balance that out but I sure wish I had weights on the front.
I mowed all of the roads on the 160 acres we have and it took no time to get finished. About three weeks prior, my father and I had mowed everything with his two riding mowers. It took us 4 hours each (8 man hours) to mow the roads. It took me less than two hours on the tractor!!
After reading all the replies to my 2wd vs 4wd thread, I generally determined that a tractor is just a tractor. It is not an ATV and is not a TANK to go anywhere and everywhere. I just could not pass up the 0% financing deal on the 2wd tractor and spend the extra $$ for the 4wd so I will use the new tractor for its intended purpose, mowing and plowing. It was pretty wet and muddy from a heavy rain on Friday night and plowing conditions were not ideal. I did lose traction a couple of times, but I'm not sure 4wd would have helped much. Anyway, I really enjoyed my tractor and hated to leave, but I was finished working.
For those of you looking for a good utility tractor, this one is off to a good start for me.
Marc
