New 50-70hp Utility tractor

Long time lurker but first post here guys. We just bought a new 50 acre piece of property and plan to build a house soon on it. I'm going to leave about 15 acres in pasture, field, 1.5-2 of that for yard, and the rest planted in pines. Our drive way will also be very long making a loop to the back and back out to the road, so alot of drive to keep up. Also we have several horses and will need a tractor that can handle moving round bales of hay and I want one I can stack the bales under a shelter, so heavy and strong. Also doing some land clearing with it so it will need a grapple.

So, about the tractors. I've looked and researched every brand. In my area we have a strong dealer network of everyone but Kioti & LS. The tractors I've narrowed it down to in each brand in my price range are.

Kubota M5660- It seems well thought out and has some strong lift capability, but it's light.

JD 5055e- Heavy, stout, strong hydraulics, seems warranty work is iffy with them around here.

Mahindra 5570- Tractor is a complete beast out of every tractor in my list. Heaviest & strongest. But controls are laid out a little awkward, steering wheel is a little far forward without tilt, and I'm concerned about reliability on it from what I've read about the brand online. Dealers say they are tanks and very reliable, two of those dealers sale other brands and still pushed it for what I'll do with it.

New Holland Workmaster 60- Probably my favorite overall. Every control seems to be perfectly placed, weight is kinda on the light side, and hydraulics are middle of the road of all these strength wise. The small 2.2L and 2600rpm rated engine kinda concern me torque wise, but I have no first hand experience running it to know.

Massey Ferguson 2606H- I like the specs and weight of the tractor, outside of that after getting on one I just don't like it.


Looking for experience on the New Holland Workmaster series, JD 5055e, and Mahindra 5570.

I've owned a Workmaster 50 for the past 16 months. Right now I have over 135 trouble free hours. The FEL is very strong. With loaded rears the tractor is very stable. The tractor is over 6K pounds in weight with the rears filled. I really like it a lot. The only issue I have is the dipstick is difficult to reinsert with the FEL frame in the way. Other than that I am very satisfied with the unit.

I've had two 5055e. Are you wanting cab or OOS. Have you looked at the t4.75 from NH? Real nice tractor with lots of strength. Would be a good fit for what your doing too

That's great to hear! I would think with loaded rears and loader at least 6500 right?

That is one thing I like about the Mahindra, it's 6300 bare tractor.

I've had two 5055e. Are you wanting cab or OOS. Have you looked at the t4.75 from NH? Real nice tractor with lots of strength. Would be a good fit for what your doing too

I haven't looked at it, I stopped at the Workmaster series because it pretty much hit my limit. Between the kid coming, newly purchased land, and building the house soon I'm trying to stay within a certain budget.

I may need to price one though just to see.

Also you mentioned owning two 5055e's and stopped there. What did you think of it?

Mine were cabs and absolute nightmares. I think they are much better and the OOS don't have the issues I did. Make sure the brakes are solid and the pedal isn't soft. I think that they are a decent tractor. Would take it over the others. Check out the one I was talking about. Don't know what the OOS is running but I can promise you it's cheaper to buy now than realize you bought to small and do it over again. Example, I had 5055s and now have a 5100e

Those planetary front axles are very robust but not as nimble as bevel front axles. My dealer advertises the 50 for $25,500. I would expect the 60 would be $27,500.

I have thought about going the used route and getting a bigger tractor, that is the only way I could do it. But I really nice used tractor come with a heavy price. Then there is the fact I don't know if I'll be lucky or get a headache.

Just an FYI. You said $30 grand is your budget. In 2014 I bought a 10 year old 70 horse cabbed kubota M6800. Loader, weighted rears, no emissions crap. Paid $28K for it delivered to my door. Had 506 hours when I bought it. You can get a LOT of tractor if you go used.

I just paid $18,900 for a brand new itty bitty Kubota BX.

If I were to sell the big kubota I would venture to say I could get even more money than I paid for it, plus I got to use it.

If I were to sell my small kubota I would definitely loose money on it.

Don't count out used. Just my two cents.

I'm assuming you have to keep the RPM's up high when mowing also with the new engine?

No. The torque rise on the engine is 1800 RPM. 540 RPM's come in at around 2300. I typically run around 2K running a 6' Brown 472 or 6' RFM. It would handle an 8 footer with no issues. Just keep the radiator and intercooler clean.

That's my budget because with most of the new tractors it'll keep me within the monthly payment because of the good interest rates, that's my real budget.

If I go used I'll be more in the $20k range

Located is Southeast, GA. For the right tractor I'll travel to surrounding states & go up in size to a 80 or 90hp if price was still very reasonable. Towing it isn't an issue.

Yeah, one dealer had a MPower 85 4wd and FEL on the lot for $32.5k. It's A LOT of tractor and tempting but I need to use that extra 2,500 on a grapple.
