1992/318 & 2010/2720 deere
New member here. 318 and new 2720 .........

From an earlier post:

I have not received my new tractor as yet but still have a few questions about power beyond and diverter valve. I ordered the 2720 with a 200cx loader and 62D belly mower Backhoe will come later, However, I was told I needed a power beyond kit to get hydraulics to the back of the tractor if I wanted to run a backhoe or any other accessories. not having the tractor in hand as yet makes it difficult to understand all this.

#1...What exactly is a diverter valve ? I was told I need it if I wanted to lift the mower deck hydraulically . This would free up the three point for other use.

#2 how difficult is it to install a power beyond kit?

I live in the US Virgin Islands , so I can't just drive over to a John Deere dealer to ask these questions. There are no Deere dealers here.

Welcome to TBN:D

#1. The diverter "diverts" fluid from from the dump/curl circuit of the loader to the deck cylinder. So instead of the left/right motion of the joystick moving the bucket, it raises the deck up and down. You don't "need" it at all-but it is convenient if you leave the FEL attached when mowing. My suggestion is to not have both attached at the same time anyway-they are just to easy to remove.

2. Fairly easy. You remove the right rear wheel, then the mid-SCV, then replace the block between the valve and the tranny with the one in the kit (after installing the plug and hoses) then replace the valve. Then mount the bracket at the rear and install the QD's, hoses, and the loop hose.

Then you ride the tractor down to the market for a 9 dollar gallon of milk.

My girlfriend was going to accept a job in the Virgin Islands until we looked at how expensive it is to live there.

I'm curious what it's costing to ship this 2720 from the states.

_________Now I am confused. I thought the deck had its own lifting lever. Are you saying its better to use the three point to lift the deck? Ok, what's a FEL? and a scv? The dealer will be installing the diverter valve but I have the job for the power beyond, so I am more interested in how to do that. I was told it's a pretty easy install. Moving up from a 318 to the 2720 is a big step for me and will be a learning process. Hope you guys are around for backup!!!

I was lead to believe that the diverter valve would free up the 3 point so I didn't have to disconnect the deck each time I want to use my bush hog. but using the same joystick for the deck and the loader seems like a pain in the butt. I was hoping that I'd keep the loader on for front end weight because my land is pretty steep, 35ー to 40ー slope. and I will need all the weight I can get. Stand by for more questions!!!! Lots of them !!! FEL =front end loader ?

Ask for indeopendent lift, this switch enables lifting MMM or rear 3 point hitch (not both) with the up down lever.

FEL=Front End Loader
SCV=Selective Control Valve Or commonly called a "remote". You tractor will have 2 already for the FEL to lift/lower and dump/curl it.

The MMM (Mid Mounted Mower) is normally controlled by the same lever (called the "rockshaft lever") that controls the 3PH (Three Point Hitch). The independent lift kit used a hydraulic cylinder to lift the deck and connects to the loader valve (SCV) ports.

I prefer the regular deck lift (using the 3PH) myself...it does not leak down like the independent lift cylinder is prone to doing, and it's cheaper. You do NOT want to be using a brush hog withe the MMM attached anyway, it reduces your ground clearance to much.

I agree Kenny, I had nothing but trouble with the hydro mower lift. Everyone complains about it leaking down and I was constantly tapping the lever to bring it back up.
In fact on my new tractor I didn't go with a MMM at all, I got a ztrac instead!

Yup it is a bit costly to live here since everything has to be shipped in. There was a 2720 shipped here a few weeks back with the same freight company I am using, so I asked to see the paper work on it. Their shipping was $1,785.00 which I thought was way too high, so I asked to measure it. Turns out the ROPS were not folded down so they charged for that height. I had a long talk with the shipper and pointed that out to them , at which point they dropped the charges down to $995.00 for shipping mine, and changed his charges to around $1100.00 because of a ballast box . I don't know the guy but sooner or later I will find out who he is and I will know what he ended up paying.

Come on down and visit the islands, you may find you like it. What job did your lady turn down anyway??....... let me guess!! .....Teacher?

I wish the sales rep would have pointed all this out to me. but I guess the more I spend the bigger his commission would be.

How difficult would it be to switch to the 3point hitch if I decided to do that?
I do plan on removing the MMM when bush hogging for that reason but want to keep the FEL on to feel for stumps and rocks etc. Seems I am in for some learning period. Stand by for the up comming questions!!

Do these new tractors not have any kind of a mechanical stop for the mower deck position? I have the independent lift cylinder on my 755, but also have a knob on the center floor to set how far down the deck lowers. It is an easily adjusted mechanical stop. When I am using the FEL, I just raise the deck and set the knob to lock it in full up position. No separate valves required. If there is no stop on the new ones I agree it would be a real pain to keep the deck in position without using the 3PH instead.
