JD 2520
Hi Everyone,

I just finalized a deal on a JD 2305 this morning at my local dealership. I have had it out at my house for a few days testing and all I can say is WOW. What an amazing little tractor.

My father has had a JD 445 for over 10 years and I also had a JD 445 until this morning. I traded in my ATV with snow plow and my JD 445 to combine everything into the JD 2305 with MMM and FEL. I have never wnated it to snow so much before.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone for all the useful input on this forum. I was comparing the Massey Ferguson GC2300 and the JD 2305. JD has them beat hands down on design, confort and especially the layout of the HST pedals and brake. Massey has some work to do. Go Green.

Thanks...

Will do. My 2305 is at the dealer getting the mowing deck, mulch kit, cruise control, and a rear power supply installed (for JD electric sprayer from my old JD 445).

Thanks...

2305JD,

I'm sure you will enjoy that machine!

Not sure if you have much experience using a small machine with a loader, but don't forget to get plenty of rear ballast; that is, these machines (2210 or 2305) can get upset quickly using the loader, so don't under estimate it's power or ability to get out of shape creating a serious pucker factor or worst get yourself hurt. Keep the shinny side up /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Congrats! Also a second vote for careful attention to ballast!

Congratulations.

I would also agree on the ballast. I filled a steel ballast box with 560lbs of Hardened concrete for maybe almost 700lbs total and I still don't think that's as much as they recommend in the loader manual. Also, make sure you get the tires loaded if they aren't already. (Manual recommends 700+lbs ballast, wheel weights AND loaded tires) - I think the tractor would sink into the ground with all that but that is what they recommend. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wow, point taken on the rear wight. Two weeks ago I was testing out the X595 with FEL with no wieght box at all. I felt like it was going to roll just climbing a 1' snow pile. Very scary.

I have a Balast Box from an old JD 318 I used to have and my dealer is going to weld a piec of flat bar on there so I can hang suitcase weight on the back of it. I currently have 4 Suitcase weights from an old IH tractor (approx. 100 lbs each). I was planning on using those and filling the box with something to try and get up to 550 lbs.

I guess it's a start.

Anyone using turf tires with FEL. What do you think???

Thanks... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CONGRATS! It's a beautiful and functional tractor. you will be amazed how many reasons you will have to play with the new toy. slap a ton of wax on it, read every single word in all the instructions ten times (when it's too dark outside to be actually using it), and have a ball.

For my ballast box on a 2210, here is what I did: went to the local tire store in my town. they had five gallon buckets of used lead wheel weights sitting all over their garage. I asked for the weights, thinking they would charge me something nominal. the owner said I could take the weights, but warned I would have to separate the lead from other trash, debris, cigarette butts, etc, also in the buckets. I was barely able to pick up a five gallon bucket of the lead weights. Brought home several buckets, went through the very nasty job of separating out the lead from the debris, and wound up with 500lbs of lead, all in small tire weight pieces. then, i drilled a couple of small drain holes in the bottom of the box, (in addition to drain there), and filled three quarters of the box with the lead weights. on top of this pile of lead, I poured about three inches of concrete. so, I would up with 600 lbs in the ballast box, which I thought was pretty neat...since it didn't cost me anything. lead is so dense that you can get a lot of weight into a small space. I keep my ballast box in my garage, sitting on a heavy duty, rolling mover's dolly, so that I can easily move it and attach it.
