I wouldn't worry as bit.

When I purchased a boat a few years ago, people kept telling me the 2 best days are (1) the day you bring the boat home and (2) the day you sell the boat. Well, that turned out to be true.

But for my tractor, its been only good stuff. Each time you go outside and see the tractor, you will smile.

Let me know if I need to start another thread on this.... I have to get insurance on the tractor but my agent says that it wont be covered if I were to " run it into a pond or creek" Of course I am not going to intentionally Sink my tractor thats why they call stuff like that accidents. Sounds kind of hokey to me. She even said it wouldnt be covered if say the brakes turned loose and it left its parking place in the barn and ended up in the pond......What good is the insurance if it doesnt cover stuff that could happen. This is new to me.

Also someone enlighten me on this. She asked if I would be using this for commercial use. I told her I might dig some waterlines or something like that but not as a business. I was told I would have to have commercial insurance because I have a backhoe.......buuuttt if I only use it for farming ie... I can rake hay for anyone all over the state of KY... the insurance is only 1\8th the price. I am confused

I would get the Kubota insurance. Only a $250 deductible, basically no questions asked no matter what you do to the tractor. They will either repair it or replace it. Also covers the tractor whether it's on your property, on a job site, etc, even when being trailered. Really the best deal out there. For my B3200 it is only like $175 a year.

I just ordered a L3400 today. With QD Loader and backhoe. I am wondering if I did the right thing now. I guess I am looking for some moral support as I am starting to get cold feet. ( maybe I should have got a cab with A\C and Heat:eek:) My wife is wonderful she told me to just go and get it. I love my wife. Still am nervous if I did the right thing I have about 9 acres total. I have thought to myself at least ten times this summer .....I wish I had a backhoe. Now that one is on the way I am torn up like a jar of kraut.

Don't worry, soon as you jump on it that grin will be so wide it won't fit through your front door and you'll probably end up sleeping on the seat the first night!!:D

Don't be concerned about the size of your acreage either. Heck, I technically own just 1 acre, but I have a 30hp tractor. I justify mine by using it at the hunt club which leases 1000 acres. You only live once, so spend a little money and enjoy it. Good luck with the orange!!!

On the insurance recommendation, Kubota has an insurance plan that is hard to beat. I have an M4800 and an M9540HDC4wd insured through them for $480 a year for both machines full coverage.

Congrats on the arrival!

Looks very sharp.

Nice tractor. I'm sure you will enjoy finding new projects that use the tractor. Just moving some old cars last weekend, I used the tractor. Slow and gentle. The bucket comes off so easy to put the forks on, I am amazed each time. Many happy days ahead. Stay safe.

Thanks guys I logged 2 hours the first day. Everything works great. My wife said that we now have to discuss (before I start digging) all holes that are being dug. Evidently its not OK to just arbitrarilly dig holes where I think one needs to be. Even though I fill them right back in. This thing is so cool. Buyers Remorse is all gone now.

Anyone interested in a B1700 in really good condition? Just a little dirty.:D

Why sell the older tractor. Always nice to have multiple tractors around.

The backhoe is something that you won't use every day but it sure is nice to have when a project expands suddenly without warning. Get a thumb on it. I wish I had one myself.

I went through the same type of anguish several years ago. As a city-boy transplanted to 30 acres of Tennessee country, I knew we needed a tractor, but was amazed at what they cost, and the different brands, options, etc. We started with an old Mitsubishi tractor, but decided to get a new Deere (2320) that was more reliable and powerful. Was amazed at how many things we ended up using the tractor for - things I never thought of using it on. More recently, we "needed" a backhoe, so I got a mini-ex to go with the tractor. I like having seperate equipment so I can run one and the wife can run the other. But each decision was hard to make, even though they were justified purchases, hard to write the check for something you don't have much experience with.
But now, if you took them away from me, I don't know how we would get anything done! So take a deep breath, and if it was a logical purchase, it will turn out ok!

A thumb on the hoe is a nice addition.

I got a set of pallet forks(Q/A) for my firewood pallets, but I use those forks all the time. Everytime i clean the garage out, move seasonal stuff in and out, I strap the items to a pallet. Makes it nice.

Nice tractor, no longer nervous? Good.

Why 8x the price for commercial?

Price out the repair cost and lost service cost when you cut a fiber bundle:eek:

Then check the costs when you cut a gas line plus YOU have to pay for the extra heating bills for those that were cut off and any damages like from freezing.

Real easy to hit 5 digits.

PLUS a "commercial" user will put more hours on the machine per year, so the risk exposure is higher.

I some areas, if you have "commercial" insurance on equipment, you need commercial insurance on the truck and trailer because you are a "commercial" enterprise. Some require USDOT numbers and all the trimmings like a big rig (extra fuses, flares, inspections, hour log, med checks, etc etc etc). Once you crack open that can of worms it gets both tricky and expensive real fast. Might be smart to get a lawyer involved to protect your assets.

See, I knew you would love it. You have a great rig, and will get a lot of things done you never even imagined. enjoy

How do those pitfalls apply if he rents/leases his tractor to his cousin even if he is not doing the work? Along the same line of thought, if someone lets a neighbor borrow their tractor and they do some damage as you mentioned do you as the owner also have liability? I am guessing the normal owner's insurance would not cover this type of incident either.

k0ua,

Is your tractor's pump very loud? Especially in high range.

/ Nervous about buying #40
Yes, pretty loud in Hi range, But, In my opinion HI range is strictly for road gear on flat land, it is totally useless here in the extremely hilly land I have around here. 90 percent of the time my tractor stays in low range, I operate some in MED. when I want to travel fast, and it is my road gear in these hills. All work is performed in LO range, When the Hydro is complaining loudly, you need to drop a range down. Also it seems like the Hydro Whine is a little less now after 50 hours than it was when new.
