FULL control by the government of ANYTHING is never a good thing for anyone.
If they could, they would tax air.
Calm down skippy. The push to legalize has many pitfalls and without regulation, will be trouble farther down the road. The lawsuits just havent started, yet.

PUSH to legalization??? 100 years??
Stop watching "Reefer madness".
Only reason it IS illegal is difficulty of taxation. That and the politicians that had their hands in alcohol way back when.
You'll never convince me that the "legal" drug alcohol doesn't cause 100% more social problems than weed.

Amen! While it does cause problems with the user, you never will see a guy smoke a joint, then go home and beat up his wife.

I used to live in an area well known for marijuana growing and consumption. I didn't mind people who were high. They just get mellow. The worst that would happen is the driver of the VW bus ahead of you at the light would be too high to notice the light turned green.

Contrast that with alcohol which makes many people violent or drive aggressively. I never had someone stoned try to fight me like I have with alcohol.

However even though I am ok with people growing and consuming marijuana I would not want someone growing on my land.

If they would legalize it nationally, the problem would disappear. The Emerald Pipeline runs to places like NYC, where there are fortunes to be made on the street. Anyone can grow up to four plants, so the native illicit market has disappeared. Four plants is more than any one person can smoke or eat, so people give it to their friends. A local dispensary sells bud for $3/gram, which works out to $84/ounce. With inflation, that's the same price as the $10/ounce that Mexican mudweed cost in 1967. That same weed will earn $300 in NYC or $500 in Washington DC, and none of that goes for testing and taxes.

They busted a cartel grow in Jackson County was 50,000 lbs. of pot, none of it destined for Oregon. If they can clear $500/lb. ($32/oz) that's $25 million bucks, and there are operations in Northern California that make it look small. They can fund plenty of anti-pot propaganda to keep it illegal.

Wondering if anyone has had to address this issue.
First off, I have no open areas to get much light. Not sure if that is good for this crop or not. Maybe I don't need to worry about it if they need 1/2 day of sunlight.

My instincts are to not start a fight without knowing who the enemy is but my guess is that it is some locals looking to make a few bucks.
Not interested in having the forest set on fire as pay back either, it isn't worth it.

I am too remote to get sherrif involved. I am thinking that that best method might be to slowly kill it with some roundup so they think its just a bad place to plant it.
If I see someone on my land, I would chase them off but guessing I will never see them as you can hear anything in the woods with all the leaves and sticks on the ground.

Anyone else solved this?
As others have mentioned, the first thing you need to do is verify that you actually have a problem.

Personally, if I found a couple of plants on my own property, I'd destroy them (nah, the thought of harvesting the plant for personal consumption never crossed my mind LOL). If it looks like a crap load of plants, I'd be calling the sheriff.

In North Carolina, I don't think you're ever to rural to get your local sheriff and his department involved if you actually have an issue. We've been at our place for close to 17 years now (I believe the next county over from you). Never had to call the sheriff's for 16 years. I had to call them this year due to some issues (not pot growers), and honestly found our local sheriffs department absolutely great to work with.

That said, with all due respect, if you call your sheriff's department believing you have a problem with pot plants growing on your property, the common sense question you most likely will be asked is if you've seen the plants yourself on your property. If you tell them "no, but my neighbors are a reliable source of information and they say it's happening" I don't know if I could hold it against your local sheriff if they gave you a line of crap and never showed up.

I'm thinking any type of "growing operation" isn't going to have stupid people growing weed on someone else's property that can be easily found, but since I've never tried to grow weed, I have no clue how stupid people could be in that area of life.

However, we go back to square one. Without knowing how much is actually being grown on your property, we're all playing the speculation game.

You know your numbers pretty well 😂

That was a relatively common problem here, until it became legalized. Lack of light wasn't a problem either, as long as they owned a chainsaw.

One of the bosses at our local drug rehab had an interesting take on the legalization.
He said that as soon as pot was legalized the corner dealers had to stay competitive which they do by offering hours that go beyond 9-5 and they add other drugs to the pot to make a better "high". They are seeing Fentanyl addiction that began due to that.

Yep. We live right near the MI boarder. MJ is illegal in Indiana, but legal in MI. We are seeing virtually 100% of the illegal MJ confiscated by police being laced with Fentanyl mostly, but other drugs as well. It is putting pressure on our EMS services because folks are overdosing on opioids when they think they are smoking a bit of weed. I am friends with several paramedics who all caution if you are going to use MJ just go up to MI and buy it from a legal shop. Yes you are illegal again when you cross the boarder back to IN, but you know you have stuff that is not laced with an opioid or other adulterant.
