Yes, as soon as a question is asked the personal attacks start as usual.

In most cases this would be an indication of a lack of confidence that can hopefully be diverted by loud consistent derogatory comments.

Well, that would explain your original "question/personal attack" then wouldn't it?

Then, I ask you a simple, straight forward question, which so far, you've failed to answer.

YOU initiated the personal attack (on Soundguy). Now we get your follow-up "loud consistant derogatory comments".

Just pointing out what is already obvious to most................

loud consistent derogatory comments

I should have also mentioned that misleading comments are exaggerated to the extreme in hopes they will draw attention away form the origins and just add confusion. Yes a definite lack of reasoning and confidence!

Dear Santa!

My name is Egon. If you possibly can, I'd like for you to bring me a sense of humor next Christmas. My parents never gave me one when I was little, and when I see others with one, I feel so left out.

TIA

SouNdguy made a joke. Anyone with so much as a shred of humor and/or intelligence could detect that. And then, with your usual lack of tact, the personal attack began. From that point on, you're simply making this FAR TOO EASY for me.

/ Need tractor for vegetable farm #46
If it was easy for you why does it seem so difficult? More personal attacks!

Jokes are jokes and some jokes aren't jokes and some of us can tell the difference. Even if we do speak the Queens English.:p

We are looking to purchase a used tractor for our 11-acre vegetable farm. We already have a MF1540 that we love, a Ford 850 and 2 Farmall SuperAs. We'd like a tractor that can do some of the work we currently do with our MF -- rototilling, transplanting, laying plastic mulch, possibly disking or plowing, cultivating, possibly running our spader, and spraying.

We've been looking around and it's hard to find exactly what we need in our price range (about $12,000). We were hoping to find something around 35 hp with 4WD. The tractor needs to be about 48" on center, but not too small, and needs to be beefy enough to carry some implements.

We're considering a MF231 -- anyone have any experience with these? Would they be too limiting because they don't have 4WD? Do they go slowly enough to transplant (less than 1 mph)? Any other 2WD tractors people like? Or more affordable 4WD ones? Seems like JD and Kubota are a little pricey, unless we get into models with alot of hours on them. We do have dealers of JD and Kubota nearby, but I haven't had great luck getting service from them. Thanks for any help you can provide.

574 IH row crop would perhaps be something to look at. Lots of them were used in tobacco. Can spread the wheels to 2 row or in for 1 row. The tractor has good weight and I think 54 HP. Short wheel base and turns good. Hydraulic brakes is also nice to have. 8 speed transmission with 8 reverses. Frist gear will work great with a transplanter. Can pull a 10 ft. leveling disk and will handle a tiller well. I had one with a Long loader on it and miss it today because the way it handled so well stacking hay in sheds.

It probably DOES seem difficult for you.....Being put on the hot seat for making one of your typically rude, obnoxious post's. This ISN'T a personal attack. Once again, I'm just pointing out the obvious. I'm getting oh so bored with this, but I'm sure Chris will be along shortly.

Oh, and obviously (again) some of "us" can't, as is apparently the case with you..........

I don't have a horse in this race but... I often enjoy trying to put out a fire with a bucket of gasoline.

I for one (and I doubt I am alone) wasn't actually sure what Egon's question was about but didn't feel the need to signal ALL STOP and publicly drag him to the wood shed to beat him bloody all the while protesting that "it isn't personal!"

Given the number of times the term "YOU" was used with vehemence, it seems disingenuous (at best) to claim there was no personal attack. Sure there was a personal attack and I'm sure it was felt to be justified given the "target" of Egon's question and his widespread reputation for timidity and reticence to express himself freely, or enter into a verbal fencing match.

Has anyone never ignored a basso profundo belch (or similar) during a polite discussion (irrespective of the point of origin) or were they compelled to digress into an out of proportion diatribe on manners, digestive processes and so forth?

Thank you so much for your kind attention and now back to the regular scheduled program... or not...

Oh, by the way, I for one was enjoying the old time tractor talk and maybe learning just a bit which is easy since I have such a narrow experience base with tractors (1000 hours on a 39HP Kubota AND VERY LITTLE ELSE!)

So....did you actually READ the thread as it progressed? Doesn't appear so. Egon's question was nothing short of a wise arsed attempt to start ANOTHER one of his riles with Soundguy, who happens to be a friend of mine. They's a long history of such. I asked a simple question, essentially asking him if he thought his line of questioning was any different than what he made Chris's comment out to be . At that point, Egon started tap dancing around the question and making accusations of "personal attacks". Accuse me of such and be more than ready for such. Simple as that. At a given point, it did become "personal". And guess what. If he starts up AGAIN, it will get personal AGAIN.

So here we are..... You don't like what I said, I don't like what Egon said........ In the same line of reasoning as the original question I posed to Egon, how is YOUR post any different than ym first one directed to Egon?

So....did you actually READ the thread as it progressed?

* Why yes I did. I read every post, in order, including where Egon asked a question that I didn't understand and you went non-linear quarreling with him. It is obvious that there is some history here but I don't really have a stake in who fired the first shot he said she said etc. It is also obvious that if Sound Guy is scratched that you bleed and that is fine with me too, friends can be a wonderful thing.

Doesn't appear so.

* WHY NOT? Can't I read a post and make my own interpretation. Am I automatically wrong because I don't get into lockstep[ with you?

Egon's question was... And guess what. If he starts up AGAIN, it will get personal AGAIN.

* Whatever... There there now, I'm sure your dorsal fin is taller than Egon's.

So here we are..... You don't like what I said,

* Actually I didn't like or dislike what you said I just pointed out that your claim of not being personal seemed disingenuous at best. I neither liked or disliked your comments.

I don't like what Egon said........

* OK, that is sure one of your perogatives.

In the same line of reasoning as the original question I posed to Egon, how is YOUR post any different than ym first one directed to Egon.

Sorry but I can't comment on your last bit above as I don't understand how it fits in. I am not attacking your buddy. I am not attacking you or anyone else. I wasn't even defending Egon. I simply pointed out your claim to not making a personal attack seemed to be bogus.

I also allowed as how I was learning from and enjoying the thread (this was largely due to SoundGuy's encyclopedic command of all things ancient in tractorland.

I'd be far happier to have the thread proceed as BEFORE you felt the need to protect the shrinking violet we all know to be incapable of his own defense due to overwhelming conscientious objections to disagreement in any form.

How would that be? Return to the enjoyment prior to the trip to the wood shed or do a few more pages of he said she said, who threw the first spitwad.. but his was bigger and wetter than my spitwad... wah! wah! wah!

Glad you feel compelled to type this bunch of drivel, and that's just what it is. Sure makes it clear just what sort of value we can place on your opinions from this point forward. (The word nill comes to mind)

I'm so sorry I offended you or caused you sufficient pain (unintended) that you feel lashing out with ad hominems is your only avenue of discourse.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I love it! Good thread going, reading from 2 very knowledgeble and experienced farmers, also very respected on this site. Then Egon has to make a sarcastic remark towards Soundguy. Man, if you could not read into Soundguys humorous statement, just stay quite without a sarcastic remark. Then Patrick G jumps in, probably because his tractor pic shows a tractor much too wide for 52", he is corrected, then has to throw a fit. Guess someone that smart should never be corrected, and not impressed with such an advanced vocabulary. I enjoy this site very much, do not post much ( can learn more with ears open and mouth shut), but have noticed a few members think they have to prove to everyone how smart and knowledgable they, then throw a fit when someone else has more knowledge. Keep it up Farmwithjunk and Soundguy, agree with you and learn alot from your posts. ( Isn't that what this site is all about? Learning from each other?) Will listen more to the person that has DONE IT, not read it out of a book.

In case you or others didn't get it:

I did not defend Egon. I did say I didn't understand his question.

I did point out a personal attack that was claimed to be otherwise. For this I got read the riot act.

I did say I enjoyed the learning experience too, especially SoundGuys contributions. I got the humor of the ground up $ to get green pigment and thought it was quite a clever comment, really funny, especially since I don't think painting foreign imports green makes them better or worth a lot more.

I have no clue what you are on about regarding "MY TRACTOR PIC" and 52 inches. Are you sure you got the right guy? I never mentiioned my tractor with regards to this thread, as it was not applicable. If I did then I must have been "sleep typing."

I too would prefer the thread went on as it had (as I saaid before) and I only injected posts (subsequent to my GIANT SIN post where I called a spade a spade, i.e. personal attack out of character with the nature of the thread) in reply to anyone who feels the need for bashing me. Hey dude, I'm in favor of the thread having gone on as it was. Egon and the JunkFarmer called a time out to fuss. Apparently the JunkFarmer can't get over it and let it go on and now you feel the need to scold me for defending myself from unwarranted garbage comments.

Chill, dude, I didn't bring the thread to a halt. That was done by the JunkFarmer and to a degree, Egon.

So far as my throwing a fit... "I think he doth protest overmuch." (Shakespeare)

Attack my logic, attack my position, but don't be a clod and make unwarranted personal attacks.

Not to be confused with C.L.O.D. (See "Mad Magazine")

MORE drivel............

You haven't "offended" anyone, no matter how hard you try. To be offended, I'd have to value your opinion, and that ain't happenin' Sparky. You have established your reputation on TBN as someone who likes to argue.....with no basis in fact for your arguement. That's well established. NO ONE.....NO ONE of any significance places any value on what you have to say.

Using cute little cliche's doesn't add anything to the content of what you're posting. Ridiculous is ridiculous, no matter how you phrase it.

There is no point in dignifying your continuing attempts to drag this thread further in the dirt. You CLAIM to be the champion of the cause to prevent just that, and you have done nothing except what you (falsely) preach to be against.

And that my friend, is what's known as being a hypocrite.

My name seems to be under attack again. Soo!

I really didn't respond to the farmer with junk because there was no reason to. Trading insults isn't in my venue.

As to the wheel spacing I woulds think there is more than one spacing allowable to fit predetermined center to center distance. The real farmers over in the Valley have figured this out many a year ago.

Now for Grunewald could I ask what type of parameters you use to define and classify a Farmer. That is a fellow who makes a living farming. Not someone who may be knowledgeable in the repair outdated equipment that is usually not seen on most working farms where a living must be made.

Now as to my experience check my profile. And Hey, Ive even climbed a real Mountain or Two just for added information.:D

A PLAY FARM picture. Yep, a small field of Winter Rye Planted by someone who only reads books???

This is rich! We have one character who claims his only purpose is to defend the downtrodden, save us from ourselves, and keep the thread from being destroyed with inuendo and argueing. His technique for duing so...? Post hypocritical statements, continue to argue, throw around that same sort of inuendo, and in general, do everything he CLAIMS to be opposed to. Then we have another, who by his own admission, has never owned or operated a commercial farming operation, who is qualifying who IS and who ISN'T a "real farmer", and in so, attempting to discredit another. In reality, one of the persons he is implying that ISN'T "a real farmer" by this caracters own criteria, has farmed commercially for near 40 years.

Boys.... you're not making a very good case for your opinions. Time to let it go.
