NEED TO VENT

Aaah, yes, sometimes we do find some uncaring, incompetent, or just plain bad service from some of these companies. On the other hand, we sometimes find just the opposite. I recently bought what I consider to be a very nice, heavy, well built dining table and 4 chairs from Sam's Club, made by the FDL company in Indiana. Some assembly required, all the necessary parts plus a spare of each bolt and washer in the box. Now I ain't gonna tell you what I did, but I managed to severely damage 3 major parts. I called the "800" number on the paperwork and told the lady there that they failed to make their instructions idiot proof/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif (actually very good instructions) and told her what I needed. And of course I offered to pay for them because it was simply my fault. They sent the new parts with no charge at all./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif The UPS guy knocked on the door yesterday and said, "I've got a big box for you."/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif He was right./w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Bird,

Around here that's just known as "Hoosier hospitality." /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Maybe so, Gary./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I've only visited and stayed in your state for a week once; had a little business to conduct with an RV manufacturer, an RV dealer, a tire dealer, and the Dexter axle plant, and was more than satisfied, very pleased, in fact, with all of them.

One thing that surprised me a bit on this furniture manufacturer was the fact that none of the paperwork has their name and address on it; just the "800" phone number. I would think they'd be proud enough of their work that they'd want their name and address on the paperwork. However, that "800" number sure worked well/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif and I found their address on the Internet.

The company may private label for many companies. We build product for dozens of retailers who request that our company name not appear on the box or instructions however it is our 800 customer support number you call if there is a problem.

Frank,

I think I've seen those metal inserts at Lowes in the "specialty connectors" section.

I recently had a pleasant experience dealing with a company. I purchased an Anderson storm door from Home Depot. During the installation, I cut one piece wrong. Did not notice until I mounted the lockset that the lockset did not line up with the striker plate.

I messed around with it a while and made some modifications that would work, but did not look attractive. The next time I was in Home Depot, I looked for a replacement part. They do not carry replacement parts, so I decided to call Anderson. Anderson wanted the serial number on the door. When I read it out to them, they new which door it was, and said they would send the replacement part at no charge. I was shocked. Apparently they have a "OOPS-PROOF" installation warranty where if the customer screws something up they replace it.

A couple days later UPS delivers a 7 foot long cardboard cylinder that contains the replacement part, as well as new screws, strike plates, and instructions.

Needless to say I was impressed.

Quite often we talk about the bad service, but at least this time, the service could not have been better. Next time I need a door, I'll surely look at Anderson again.

I didn't think about that, PitBull, but it makes sense and sounds like a good possibility.

ANOTHER store I'll be adding to my list of places is JC Penny.
I made my annual pilgramage there today, Bah Humbugh shopping for the wife, and moticed the fine print on the labels when I got to the register. Made In VietFNam goods will not be coming into this house! I left 4 garments sitting at the checkout stand.
Once more, thanks William Jefferson Whorehouse Clinton.
POW MIA accounting first, body return next, and then, sell us your goods.
I can accept Mexico, Indonesia, and might even think about Made in Russia, but NOT with American Brand Names on it.
I wonder how long the moderator leaves this up.
