Nope Zebrafive, my fuel filter isn't a glass box. It's a solid, black metal jacketed filter. On top of that assembly is a bleeder valve as well apparently.

After an issue with restarting the MF 265 I take the RPM up to around 2000 when it fires because after it started then some trapped air caused it to dye again and more bleeding. After a minute or two I would idle it down.

Well, I opened the bleeder valve on the fuel filter and pumped the air out of it. Then I opened the nuts on the injector lines one at a time and pump the air out of them both by pumping the hand pump on the fuel pump as well as by turning it over. Fuel seems to be there without air. Yet still not firing. Any ideas as to what to do next?

She's runnin' guys!!!!! I let it sit for a bit after my last post. Went back out, cracked the bleeder valve on top of the fuel filter. Pumped the hand primer and sure enough some more air bubbles came out. When they stopped I closed the bleeder valve. I took the cap off the air filter compartment had my wife turn over the motor and gave it a shot of ether. Didn't go the first time. Did it a second time and she popped right off. Ran the throttle up and she hasn't missed a beat since. Still running.

Thanks to all of you for helping me fix this problem. You probably saved me a $500.00 bill by not having to have the JD truck come out and do it.

Have a great Sunday!

Glad you got it running. Did you loosen the the injector nuts at the pump or at the injectors? I see a little wetness up on top of my #4 cylinder and I'm wondering how easy it will be to check the nut for tightness. Never had my hood off yet.

This is an old thread but, happen to blow a fuel filter today and couldn't remember how I changed it the last time. This time I made a Word doc, so I'll paste it in here, at the risk of being repetitious. These are my notes-to-self. Hope it helps someone in the future.

JD310A Fuel Filter Replacement

When changing fuel filter, loosen the white plastic knob, below glass sediment bowl first, to drain fuel, If bowl doesn't empty in a couple minutes, loosen round darker knob directly against underside of bowl, which is attached to the hollow attachment bolt. Drain remainder of fuel, remove bowl and element. There is an"o" ring up inside of the filter body, which can be replaced.
The tiny "o" ring may be for the white plastic knob under sediment bowl. Replace upper and lower filter gaskets. Upper filter gasket can be mounted in groove up inside filter body. Lower gasket can be placed in "shelf" of sediment bowl.
Hold assembly by bottom of attachment bolt and screw into Filter body. Tighten by hand first, but then use pliers to make round darker knob and white plastic screw snug, or they will leak.

Make sure air in filter is purged as follows;
Open upper white plastic screw on top of filter body, To the right about 1 foot away is the fuel pump. On the lower right side of the fuel pump is a thin metal lever, push/pull the lever which acts as a hand pump to pump fuel into the filter and pushes the air out threw the top white plastic screw on the filter body. It may take 10-20 pumps of the lever until fuel come out of white screw vent. when it does stop pumping and tighten white plastic screw to close vent. Engine should then start, without having to mess with injector lines, etc.
