I have read some posts about off road diesel and on road diesel and from what I learned from here and the places I purchase fuel there is no difference in the two except the dye.
But....there is a new place that has on road, off road and off road high sulfur. So I like saving the money so I buy the off road for use in the Kubota. Now should I buy the high sulfur or the regular? I called the dealer and they really did not know for sure. Maybe I will email Kubota. What do you all think?

Hillslider,

What is the difference in price between the offroad and offroad high sulfur?

High sulfur tends to have more lubricity but also newer engines are built for the low sulfur and alot of fuel manufactures add enough lube back in but theres still no spec for any diesel fuel as far as lubricity is concerned except the premium branded spec.. the only thing i can think of being a disadvantage is the higher sulfur content's tend to increase the oil's acidicity more quickly.

Do a search for this topic, it is well covered. Also check Chevron and BP/Amoco for fuel spec charts. I do not have the links anymore but both can be found with a Google search.

Is there a significant price difference between on and off road diesel? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well on road right now is 1.799 and the off road I bought for the shop was 1.299. So I would say that is significant. For the shop I usually buy a hundred gallons at a time so it adds up. But even for the 10 gallons I buy for home use I save 5 big ones.

It is funny your dealer does not know about high/low sulfer for your engine..... did you check the owners manual? The newer stuff sometimes has a section about that....

I asked our distributer about high and low sulfer once. And I was told that the for years, they have been decreasing the sulfer slowly. So in essece, when they anounced low sulfer fuel, it was a lable. I asked about the affect in the engines and they said it should be no affect...... It's been a while since I asked, been a few years. We run off road diesel (not sure if it's high or low).... but all the equpment runs fine.

The high sulfer fuel must be for the people who "demand" that for use in older equipment..... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hillslider,

My local suppliers don't have anything labeled "high sulfur," but others have mentioned it.

I was under the impression it was less expensive and was marketed as a "dirtier" fuel to save some money... ? But you said it cost more /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Anyone else have info on this? I'd be curious to know, too.

I checked the owners manual and all it says is to use #2 for 14 degress and above and #1 for for teperatures below 14 degrees F. One tip it did offer which I do not always do is to make sure tank is full of fuel befor parking overnight to avoid condensation in the tank. Easy enough.

Then there is a paragraph on what grade deisel fuel is according to ASTM D975????? Not sure what that means but it states fuel should have a max sulfur content of .50%. Dont mean squat to me......the pump just states high sulfur content.

I did email Kubota....will post answer if I get one.
