Yeah, that is a bummer Cyril ... so sorry to see that happen.
But JJ is right and your steps for repair are the right way to approach it.
BTW, you can probably find someone local to do it, but if not, I know someone in CA that can do it for sure.:)
Rob-

I've considered JJ one of the wisest guys on here. Good advice sir. I also know a guy in Newfoundland, Canada that could weld it ;)

.

I used to TIG weld my glasses years ago whenever they broke. They were made of Monel and I used to cut strips of BeCu sheet to use for filler. Unfortunately, that machine is no longer around.

Thanks for the offer Rob, but I already have it covered.

Those parts you made are sure great. Not even a mark on the piece you made and it snapped the top off the spool inside.

Hey Cyril did you get it installed?

I did, but with everything I've had to do to get ready for the picnic I haven't had time to hook it to the tractor. Thought I might get to it today to do some mowing along the road, but I goet up at 5am and started this morning and just got home. Now 8 pm. Other than mowing along the county road, I'm ready.

Finally got time to hook the mower up to the tractor today. The spool repair works great. Sure beats having to buy a whole new valve assembly.

I thought I was too, but priorities seem to be fluctuating almost daily right now. Last night I descovered that I have 100 or so feet of perimiter fence laying on the ground. This was some of our origional fence (chainlink stapled to 4x4 pressure treated posts). I'm guessing that the cattle started pushing against it to get greens through the fence and the 20+ year old posts started breaking and falling over. It's kind of a domino effect, because once the first post breaks, they can reach more stuff and start pushing harder and eventually walking on the sloping fencing putting more presure on the next posts causing them to break. I guess I'm going to have to rebuild some fencing in the next few weeks. For now, that pasture is out of commission. Sure glad I have five others.

Tough stuff. There's always something in life to keep it interesting. Sounds like you got some work to do and I don't know anything about fencing. ):
