The head gasket looks good, it's on the block, and unblemished. That crud had to leak out of the head after removal. I'm guessing the water got in through the exhaust.

Yep, gasket looks good. that's alot of rust on that chamber that came from somewhere

Im with norm, once i say that ruted out flange i was thinking that the water possibly went right down that exhaust or into a leaky flage or hole in the pipe etc.

Sure hoye dosent have that flange? looks just like the original one that i thought that hoye would have. Ask if they have a parts tractor with it on it, they have parts tractors for used parts, but you have to call and ask.

If you can take all your rusted pieces to a custom muffler shop they can make something up to match the original, i would go to tsc and buy a small mufler for a cub or some othersmall tractor, or one from hoye for that size tractor so that you dont end up with something fabricated with an auto muffler on it. But hey the mufler off something like a jetta or civic or ford aspire or even the chamber at the end of exibitions or surburbans would probly work and maybe cheap[er.

That standard muffler that Danny pictured is what belongs on there. I would try to use that, if at all possible. I think its dimensions are online somewhere so you can check loader clearance.

Does anyone have the torque specs for putting my head back on. Also need specs for valve rockers. Yes it took almost a month to get my head back from the shop. Now the fun of puitting this all back together begins. Glad I took pictures so I can remember where stuff goes..

Thanks Ray

130 ft lbs in 3 sequences starting in middle and working back and forth. I'm unsure on rocker arm bolts. I read on one post from 58 to 72 ft lbs. That seems like to much span to me. Someone with a book will share I'm sure. .006" on your valves.

Just a Guess but either that is one busy shop or your head had some problems. They must have worked them out
Or was you able to figure out how the water was getting in the cylinder ?

It is a real busy shop they build car racing heads and do antique airplane work. the only reason they did mine was because a guy I work with is buddies with the owner. Well going to give it a whirl today will let you know how it comes out..

Thats great,I'm sure they are more than qualified. They probably would not have even touched if it wasn't for your buddy. Just keep taking your time and try not to miss anything it will all fall back together:thumbsup:

Good news it all went back together. THE BAD NEWS located crack in block after I got it running ran for 20 mins then stalled wont restart. coolant leaking from crack. Think I've hit my limit anyone in the market for a ym2k in need of repair. Or maybe I should part out.

Oh man what a disappointment.

That shop that rebuilds antique cylinder heads will know how to repair it but the cost might be unreasonable.

If it won't crank, spin it using the compression release to blow the water out of the cylinders.

I'm sorry to hear this.

Crap!!! Thats why I figured it may have taken so long but it did cross my mind that no damage to the head was found or mentioned.New the water/rust in that Cyl. didn't look good any shouldn't have been there But dang not from that.
Check into it were the crack is may be a easy fix. but the way I look at things like that is expect the worst and hope for the best.

Ray it's a sleeved engine. A pair of cylinder sleeve/piston sets is normal overhaul procedure.

Is it simply a sleeve that is cracked, or the block itself?

The one leak is coming from the rear of the head . The second leak is where the radiator hose connects to the block about 2 inchs behind fitting and appears to be about 1 inch long and coolant is leaking from crack. I don't know why it stopped unless its coolant leaking into fuel. When I turn it over get white smoke out of exhaust but will not fire.

Maybe someone local would like to buy as project. Everything works and has new skid steer turf tires on rear and loader has to be worth somthing.

"The one leak is coming from the rear of the head . "
Why.

A 1 inch crack is not necessarily a death blow. There are lots of block sealers on the market, and lots of vehicles running with them. I would definitely do some troubleshooting, find out why it won't run, why it's leaking at the head, does it need a sleeve, etc.

I think I'm ready to give up and sell it as is. I want to move up to a bigger tractor anyway have a lot of work to do on 20 acre lot that needs clearing. How much do you guys think a ym2k with loader is worth. It has turf tires (skid steer) on rear. I figure the loader alone has to be worth it.

Looking in my Yanmar operators manual --

Engine smokes white: Wrong fuel, low temperature, air in fuel (lean), low compression, bad head gasket.
