Kubota L2800
Last week while trying to remove a dead Oleander bush, I broke a hydraulic cylinder on the bucket of my Kubota (L2800)... I won't bore you with details but I took it to my "Bota dealer. The cost of repairs was almost the cost of a new cylinder, which was close to $600. I gotta feel like I've been taken to the cleaners.
My question is... How the heck do I know what to ask for doing an internet search? Do I get the external length of the entire unit? I've looked for some kind of numbering system on the unit but there are none?
Any suggestions in case this ever happens again? I thank you in advance.

Sounds like a pricey repair. Hydraulic cylinders are specified by working pressure, inside diameter, rod size and stroke length. Other details needed are pin diameter and center-to-center retracted and extended, port size, clevis style, etc. Most loader cylinders are made-to-spec for the loader manufacturer. You might find one somewhere that would work but the original style would be the best match. Next time you damage one, take it to a general machine shop or hydraulics place - they fix stuff all the time - often without charging the "Brookstone" markup.

I wouldn't take a cylinder back to the dealer for repair. Find a hydraulic repair shop. They can be your friend.

What "broke" anyway?

I was "back-dragging" in efforts to remove an O'Leander bush that had died. What broke was the rather hefty collar on the front of the cylinder. The one that holds the seals in place. It broke in half with the rod extended. Bent the heck out of the rod... <sigh>
