Geting ready to till areas of my lawn and then seed. I first need to make a drag to level the dirt before seeding. I've read about using a piece of chian link fence and a couple pieces of pipe. Would appreciate any photo's anyone would care to post to give me ideas.

Thanks

I have about 1/3 of a side of an old cattle head gate I use for really rough stuff, have to pull it with the tractor it's so heavy. I've got two pieces of 2" pipe with cement in each end chained to each other about 4' apart I use behind the 4-wheeler for leveling places where I don't need to drag out a lot of grass, mainly places I keep disced up all the time.

I always thought you were supposed to seed before you dragged? I guess you could drag smooth, seed and then drag again for seed coverage. Please let me know what the correct method is as I'm about to do this.

There was a recent post about this. Old bed springs were another type of drag commonly used.

My grandfather uses an old bed spring around his garden and yard. He ties cement blocks on top of it for extra weight when he needs it. Works well.

If you need to level the land prior to seeding a heavy object druig at an angle wiill be what you are looking for. It should be solid and as long as the tractor can pull. You should drag from diferent directions, till and drag again for a level lawn area. Might even take more times depending on how fussy you are. The draging will compact the soil.

Till again before seeding to loosen up the soil and use a harrow of some type to cover the seeds.

I made a smal harrow. [ pic. attached ] As you cansee it also has other uses.

Chain a few logs together about 8 feet long. keep about a foot or 2 of chain between each log. You can change the angle by were you grab the lead chain
