Need help with TC35d starting problems.

Have a tc35d that intermittently doesn’t start. The starter makes a click when you turn the key and a click when you let the key go. It might do this for a minute or 10 minutes and then when it engages starts right up. Battery and connections are good. Ground connection is good. Here’s a video of the attempt to start.

Sure looks like a good candidate for a start relay kit. This has been covered extensively on many forums. It works! This is a bit over priced in my opinion, but the concept is what counts. You can DIY the same thing with parts house components.

The TC series had problems with internal corrosion on the battery terminals. Impossible to see. It allows volts to pass but not amps through the connection, so lights come on and things click but the starter will not turn over. You can test it by connecting jumper cables to each end where the battery cables connect from the battery to the frame and the starter. Or just replace the battery cables with ones from the auto parts store.

You nailed it. I ran 12v from the battery to the switched 12v at the starter solenoid and it started right up. The solenoid only gets 11v when the key is turned. Apparently that isn’t enough.

Much more common problem than you would think. The added relay is usually the answer.
