Went out to garage to start up ranger the other morning and it would not start. It ran fine the night before. I took the plug out, it was fine. took the hose out of gas tank, the screen was clean. What should I try to do next? Can anyone help?

Does the engine turn over? It just want start? Do they have any kind of emergency kill switch on them like some of them quads?

It turns over fine. I don't know of any kill switch.

You really should fill in your profile so we know what climate we are dealing with here. Did you choke it? Is the fuel shut off in the closed position?

Don't just look at the plug. Test it. Get someone to hit the starter while you look at the plug to see if you are getting spark. Eliminate the whether it is an electrical problem first and then determine whether it is getting fuel or not. You may want to try the guys over at the Polaris Ranger Club forum also. Real nice bunch of folks there, a lot like this site.

Thanks for the ideas. I have been gone all day, but will try to test the plug tomorrow. I hate being without the ranger. The weather is not a factor. I don't ever use the choke, because the slighest use of it has always caused it to flood. The Ranger is a 2005 with only 200 hours on it. I've never had any problems with it. It was running fine the night before when I pulled it in the garage and shut it off. I am going to drain the gas out. Does anyone know how to do this?

I always use choke when I cold start my Ranger. I also always keep a small ATV charger on the battery to make sure that the battery is full.

is there anytype of plug on the bottom of the carb or is it efi?? if it has a carb and it had a plug running to the side or bottom of it with a wire going to it try takin the plug out and holding your finger or gettin a bolt the same size as the plug to cover the hole . then try to start it .if it starts there is yor problem. mine went out on my gator one time(defective) one way that gave me a sign was the plugs were dry and it wasn't gettin no gas to the cylinders.but anyway check the plug or should i say solinoid at the bottom or side of the carberator.

His Ranger must have a carb because he says that he always uses the choke. The EFI models do not have a choke.

I took the plug out, put the plug wire back on, cranked it over and saw no spark. Should I? Also should I not see fuel being pumped through the clear hoses? Still can not get her started.

To check the plug do as you did but you'll have to ground the plug to the engine also. Just hold the plug so the threaded part of the plug contacts something metal on the engine. You should see a blue spark.

I did as you said with the plug, grounded it, cranked and saw the spark. Where do I turn to now?

Crank it over a few times and take the spark plug out. If the plug is bone dry, you aren't getting any fuel. Another thing you might try is take the plug out and squirt a few drops of gas into the spark plug hole. Put the plug back in and crank it. If it tries to start, it's a fuel problem. An eyedropper works good for this.

I believe its just new with the 500cc engine, but the 700 cc XP is EFI and came out in 2005.

no i'm talkin about on the side of the carberator there is a solenoid i messed up and called it a plug . but anyway if you have one and one way to test it is to
1.. pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug and turn the engine over a few times then take the plug out if it'd dry you ain't gettin no fuel(duh) i know.

2 .. look on the side of your carberator and see if there is a solenoid with a wire runnin to it if so take it out and iether hold your finger over the hole or get a bolt and put in it . then try to start your engine if it starts there is your problem. the solenoid should be on the bottom of the carb bowl or on the side of the carb bowl.
