Need help with pumping septic

Maybe just put in a new tank beside the old one. Then you would be good for another 20 or so years? Might be cheaper in the long run and less of a headache than trying to figure out getting the old one pumped out.

What a crappy discussion.

You are however fortunate as around here it is mandatory to pump every 2 years subject to serious fines.

I owned a house that had a regulation septic system that I had pumped for the first time after some 20 years and that was due to poor flushing action.
Turned out to be blocked by a rag and other objects.
(J cloths simply don't dissolve like paper)

The pumper man said my septic was like about one that was 2-3 years in usage.
The secret is low flush loos, showers vs baths and no garbage shredders.
Also only using white TP as colors don't dissolve well.
Also greases should not be flushed, better to collect in a container and dispose via trash collection in the compostable bin if U have local 3 bin collection system.

Pumped every 2 years. Yeiks. A proper system may never need to be pumped.

We collect all our grease and food scraps and give it to our birds at the feeders. Grease is high energy and helps our birds stay warmer during the winter.

Ideally, having a grey-water system would help the septic system immensely. The only thing going to the septic would be from the toilet and everything else would drain elsewhere.

How much land do you have? How close are and how well do you get along with your neighbors? Are the authorities well aware of your predicament? I won't tell you what to do, but years ago when I had more energy than money I did some surreptitious sanitary engineering.

We only have a 500 gal tank (installed by the PO, don't know why she put in such a small one), and we have it done every 2 years. I find it hard to believe that anyone can go 20 years or more without destroying their leachfield.

Your advice is all good. A graywater drywell system (if legal where you live) is another alternative, at least for laundry water. Don't overdo it, from what I've been told, too little water going into the septic is as bad as too much.

Go rent a ground water trash pump, and long discharge hose. We just pump it into the flower bed, the flowers bloom like mad. Surprising the smell was gone in no time.

All the septic tank needs is a constant supply of poop. The water is just the means to get it there without clogging your pipes. Hooray for poop!
