Need help sizing a rotary cutter

I just top mine off too. Changing oil is for engines and precision pumps that suffer from particulate matter in the oil. I've always thought you could keep a mower gearbox happy with any oily substance from fine oil all the way to bacon grease if necessary. I keep mine topped off with 90w but I cannot imagine actually changing it.

Since I bought my rotary cutter used and had no idea how the previous owner ran it or abused it I changed mine once and used a suction pump to pull it out (did not get under it to find a drain plug). Then refilled with 90 weight and have not had an issue, will probably do the same for the finish mower this year as it gets used more.

You change the oil in your mower gearbox??
Well I figured I'd give it a fighting chance, and I forgot to ask if the dealer filled it with something reasonable. With cheap Chinese junk I always read that you should change the fluids to make sure it's got the right stuff in there. It's like a quart and the change helped rustproof the deck....

Just an update for anyone interested. Sold my finish mower on Saturday, picked up a 6' Woods BB72X Wednesday, and mowed 3 to 4 acres today. So far I am very pleased with the cutter. I set it for a 3" cut and went straight to the tallest thickest grass we had and it chewed it right up, the same spot would have bogged the finish mower down easily. Also I ran the finish mower at its highest caster setting, about 5". It's still early but so far I am happy with the cutter and glad I didn't go with the 5' cutter. It seems to be well matched to my tractor as far as weight and size.

I have the BB60x version on my DK40se. I use it only for thick brush and it does a great job with brush that would strain my flail. Only reason I didn't get the 72 was that I found the barely used 60 on CL. If buying new I'd definitely get the 72.
