Haven't seen much about this in the New Holland Forum over the past 10 years. I would suggest Yesterday's Tractors for help.

There IS an antique ford section her at TBN

if this is a 47 ford 8n we are talking about.. it's nothing more than swapping the genny for an alternator and the brackets to do so, upgrading to a 2.5 ohm coil, and keeping the oem ballast resistor, adding a 12v battery, and makeing sure you are negative ground.

OEM 6v starter and solenoid DO NOT need to be changed.

this is an easy common changeover.

if you like you can even have the old 6v genny rebuilt as 12v, get a new vreg and the battery/coil and keep it looking original.

Just a curious bystander question, don't the bulbs need to be changed?

you SHOULD change them.. but i know some that simply wire them in series till 1 fails, etc.

There are many of these tractors that have had their lights removed for many years. Changing to 12 volt lights is certainly recommended if you need them. In the case of my NAA many years ago, I went out and bought some shiny chrome offroad lights and mounted them in place of the factory lights while retaining the oem parts. Except for testing the new fancy lights for operation, I don't think I ever used them once.:)

My neighbor bought a kit from the local New Holland/Ford dealer. It included a rebuilt alternator, all the parts, brackets, bolts, a new fan belt and complete instructions.

I'm thinking it was $140-150??
