Need help opening Microsoft Outlook Files

I have received a bunch of Microsoft Outlook Files that I need to open. The files are two types:
1. filename.msg
2. filename.eml(33.1 KB).msg

Some of the file types 1 will open with no problem. Some will not.
None of the file types 2 will open.

The error message I get is "Unable to open outlook".

What do I need to open these files.

Usually if you right click with your mouse on the filename.eml, an option box should pop up and give you options. the first is usually open, under that is open with. Click that option and look for Microsoft Outlook or outlook express and click OK. I am assuming you use some form of Windows which comes with Outlook. I hope this helps. If this error msg. still comes up you may have to reinstall outlook. It may have been deleted if your using another E-mail program.

Thanks George, but that's what I have been doing and it does not work.

I use Netscape and have never used Outlook. It came already installed on my PC.

I'm still lost as to what to use to open the files.

.eml is an Outlook Express filetype. Outlook Express is very different than Outlook. See if your system has Outlook Express installed. .msg is an Outlook filetype. If some of them open properly and some don't, my guess would be that they were created with a different version of Outlook. They probably have a newer version than you. It could also be that the messages were created with a different email program and output in an Outlook format. It could be that the conversion if not fully compatible.

I do have outlook express installed. It came on my PC when purchased.

If you need Outlook express installed - just go to update.microsoft.com & do an update - Outlook Exress should be there if you do not have it installed. You can also look under C:\Program Files\Outlook Express there should be a file called MSIMN.EXE that is usd to start the outlook express program.
