Tractor
BX 2680. Front bucket, grapple, pallet forks, box blade aireator 008-5 excavator ZD 1211 mower RTV 500
I just took delivery of a Kubota LX 2620 cab tractor as such I’m contemplating selling my BX 2680 I have no clue what to ask for it
It’s two years old has 36 hours on it. Complete with front loader and the following options rearview camera., third function valve, corrugated steel grill guard insert powder coated, quick hitch, skid plate to protect HST fan, step, adjustable stabilizer bars to replace turnbuckles on three pointcanopy with downdraft fan. Always stored inside no scratches, dents or anything. I said I have no idea what the market value is.

Sounds like a well equipped, low hour machine! A starting point would be the original purchase price, and add on the extra features from there. Don't know the original price, but what would that be plus $2k ?

I looked at trading my low hour B2601 for a heavier 25ish HP tractor a while back. The trade in offers were so low it was a no brainer to just keep the little B. I would scour the used market and get a feel for pricing that way.

My guess is you'll be lucky to get what a new one would cost from a private sale, the extra accessories are gonna be hard to recoup, considering a new tractor will have an extra 2 years of warranty, and much better financing conditions ...

Might just hold onto it for a while. It is a nimble little workhorse. It gets into tight places and at my age with physical problems it means a lot less changing of implements I can keep the lightweight implements such as the grapple and the aerator on the BX and use the LX for heavier lifting and let my kids worry about it when I pass besides at 83+ I’m not ready to slow down

Unless you need the money or storage space I wouldn’t sell it
Extremely difficult to to get what it’s worth being so new and very close to the price of new
When I was executor of my father’s estate one of the items was a three year old full size Chevy van with only 5 k on it and nobody was interested in it at market value because it was too close to the price of new. I ended up keeping it and was amazed at how much I used it as a second vehicle.
And if you aren’t ready to slow down like you said then just think about how much more you can do with two tractors than just one!!

Why should I slow down, I enjoy helping people which right now helps me keep my sanity as my fantastic wife of 58 years is suffering from the late stages of Alzheimer’s and I don’t like to watch tv so I stay busy helping others

PS besides two tractors I have a mini excavator and a large mower

I imagine it will be hard to get much more than 70% of the new price unless something has changed in the new model which makes the old model very desirable. Buyers are paying cash and taking risks not associated with buying new and so they want a discount that justifies that cash outlay and risk. I handed $32k over for my tractor which was 4 yrs old with 149 hrs on it. The dealer quoted me $48k for the same new unit including tax and remotes (already installed on the used unit)
If you can afford the change I would do it. (meaning money lost does not adversely affect your financial situation) You only live once and you should have the tractor you want. GL

This conversation is headed in a different direction, but a good way to estimate value of most machinery is tractorhouse.com. You can also search equipmentfacts.com for auction results to get actual sale prices.

I’m in no way suggesting you slow down
I’m impressed with what you’re doing at 85 and would be honored to shake your hand!!
Reading your post says you already took delivery of the new one and didn’t trade anything you had in at the time so you don’t seem to be concerned with the money side of the equation
So like you said, keep it to make your life easier with the attachments it works well with and put it to work doing the thing you like to do and let your eirs worry about what to do with them after you have finished with everything else
Keep it up, the world needs more like you.

I helped my 85 yr old friend find and buy a 30 hp JD (3035?) It is his first hydrostatic 4 wheel drive tractor and he loves it. His 4 old 2wd shift tractors sit now. He couldn't be happier and staying active grading, mowing, trimming trees with a chipper attachment etc. 85 is the new 70 ? :D

From a buyers perspective, if i can go down to the dealer and pay $25k, im not going to pay $22.5k for your used machine. New equipment loans have much better terms than used equipment loans too. So, i would expect to take atleast a 20% hair cut.

With that, if yours has a lot of options, buyers are likely comparing your asking, vs a base model; so, I dont think your "linked pedel" or other upgrades will count much for you. Rear remotes, maybe a bit, but at best, 20% off base, and about 50% off impliments/upgrades/options.

With all that bad news, waiting to sell a few years isnt going to help the price, and it seems like a lot of overlap with the new machine. So, with that, I would likely list it, and see what offers come in. I would expect the best offers to be in feb/march/april; spring and tax refunds

Trust it or not, Google AI finds a recent sale of a 2022 Bx2680, 12 hours, $16,900. So, maybe that gives an apples to apples information point.

You can get a ballpark figure by asking ChatGPT what it is worth in your zip code. Be very descriptive in your question to include year/make/model/condition/after market add ons, etc.

... how much more you can do with two tractors than just one!!
With two tractors you have a way to get your tractor unstuck from mud. Or from flipped over. Or from auger buried in clay.

He has put less than 50 hours in 2 years on the BX, and now has a replacement machine. I just dont see keeping it as a spare. Get what you can get, and move on.

Is the BX paid off? If so, I assume you have no holding cost (insurance), but you still have opportunity cost, of that $16k sitting there, that could be either paying other stuff, or invested, or something more useful then sitting

I bought my BX strictly as a lawn mower figuring I would never have a use for it for anything else since the L4060 was my go to for everything I need a tractor for. Turns out the BX is pretty handy for a lot of things, especially if I need to trailer it over a long distance. I have used it to power an auger when the L was too big to get into a spot where I needed to dig a hole for a footer. Taken it from VA to Charleston SC to do a fence at a second home, etc.

So if you can afford it I'd keep both.

I totally agree, I'm also 83, if you slow down, you die.
