I just bought a 2007 F250 SD crewcab 4wd with a powerstroke. I replaced my 2500 with it. I figured out how to turn off the seatbelt reminder and disabled the auto doorlocks but is there an easy way to kill the chime that rings when you leave the key in the switch? on my chevy you could pull the key out even just 1/8 of the way and the chime would quit, but on the ford you have to remove it all the way. I havent pulled any covers off yet, thought Id see if anyone has done it yet?

Not trying to hijack here, but what about disabling the door open chime on an 03 Dodge? Turned to acc. to listen to the stereo with the doors open the noise gets obnixious....

look under the steering colum under the key tumbler you will see a small hole here. Stick something small inthe hole piece of coat hanger what ever in the hole put your key in the ign turn to run pull the tumbler out of the lock don't remove the key look at the tumbler you will see a metal contact about 1/8 in by 1/2 in tape over it put the tumbler back in the lock.

how do you like the F-250 compared to the 2500 Duramax?

Its hard to give an acurate comparison. The ford is brand new, I only have about 1000 miles on it so far. The chevy was not new when I got it (3 years old with 50,000 miles)
The steering, braking and overal ride is better in the 250, but I had added an EDGE controller in the 2500 so it had faster responce and more tourqe. The ford has some features I like better... Bigger mirrors, turnsignals out the outside of mirror where I cant see them in the corner of my eye, 60/40 bench seats, brake controller, touch panel entry, back up alarm(very handy when backing up to trailers) But the chevy had heated leather, locking axles, compas and therm in rearview,

What we need is to be able to pick our fav options from the big 3 and add them all together, with out having to get a "package". Hopefully I will plan my next purchase better and order a truck built the way I want it.

By the way Thanks again I pulled the key switch at lunch and taped the skinny L shaped contactor and no more dingy noises. Took longer to type than it did to fix

You actually had to pull the whole switch, as opposed to the way Jimbrown described?

I guess you would just consider it the tumbler assembly. I never would have thoght it was that easy to remove. I did pull the plastic cover off (3 screws) just to see what I was pushing on to remove the tumbler. took less than 5 minutes.

Cool. Thanks for this thread ... never knew you could turn off that stuff w/o cutting wires.

Put it on.:D

I have several shirts that are worn across the left shoulder and down to the right front bottom from the seat belt wearing holes in them(Air ride seats cause the belt to move a little bit with each hard bump). I put the seat belt on almost without thinking about it. It will become a habit for you too if you give it a chance.
Several of my friends found out what Heaven is all about, due to not having them on.
The lawsuits abound if someone is seriously hurt in your vehicle and you have disabled the "reminder".

When I bought my first duramax in 2005 I almost bought a ford because ford had a lot better mirrors. In 2006 when i traded in my 2005 chevrolet had made the same size mirrors as the ford has an option. I test drove a 2007 chevrolet this week and it had the built in brake controller and the back up alarm. It is interesting that chevrolet is finally starting to add some of the options that ford has had for years. I might buy a ford but I really like the duramax and the allison transmission

The instructions are in the owners manual, On an 07 250 you turn on the key wait until seatbelt light goes off, buckle and unbuckle the drivers belt 9 times when the seatbelt light comes back on buckle and unbuckle 1 more time . I think all this has to be done in a certain time frame, with the parking brake on, doors closed, all other accessories turned off.

I have been a fireman for 20 years, and am currently the Assistant Chief, I have unbuckled several dead people. I personaly only wear my seat belt while on the interstate or in severe weather. Life is full of choices, The reminder is very irratating and the auto locks were just as bad. at least with the ford auto locks you can open the door from the inside, When I first got a chevy I pulled up to the firehouse one night about 3 am and liked to broke my shoulder pullint the handle and pushing the door before I took a breath and found the little unlock button.:D

When I bought my 2004 F-150 FX4, a website I found helpful was

FordF150.net

They have a section for the SuperDuty trucks as well, many useful resources.

all in all, a seatbelt probably saves more lives than it takes.

same can be said for helmets.

it still ought to be a choice, not a law.
