I'll throw out the idea that maybe less is better. His driveway is only 200 feet long. Not short but could he get by with a loader and rear blade?

I had that exact setup in lower Michigan. Most years it was more than enough, but in the 2013 winter it was marginal. I kept up, but sometimes spent an hour clearing my then 900' driveway.

Based on comments and what locals do, I think I'm going to need a snowblower, even if I may sometimes try to plow when the depth and type of snow cooperates.

Mine is about 600 feet long but we don't get a lot of snow. We got something around 24" a few years ago. With a loader and rear blade, it was really slow, took me maybe a couple of hours, but I'm also using a Kubota BX which is pretty small.
